Over six weeks of live beer classes with Peter Mooney, you’ll become a master in beer. Each week, we conduct a class that focuses on a different topic about craft beer. Throughout the course, we focus developing your beer palate while discussing all aspects of craft beer: the brewing process, ingredients (both classic and new), understanding beer styles, craft beer trends, and how to talk about beer.⁠⁠

We have two levels of classes: 101 and 201. The first class, 101 covers what we consider necessary beer knowledge and lays a foundation for how to talk about, evaluate, and judge beer. 201 expands upon that base, featuring some deeper cut beers and brewer chats. You must attend the 101 class before signing up for 201. So grab your spot in either 101 or 201. ⁠⠀⁠⠀

Beer School is Back! 📝⁠⠀

We had so much fun with the first class that we're doing it again. Cindy and Hal are going to turn your beer drinking from something you do, into something you do well. Drink more beer better. ⁠⠀

Here are the details: ⁠⠀
• Class is online (obviously). ⁠⠀
• The class ic 6 weeks long (plus one Bonus Class: Christmas 🍪 & 🍺 Pairing). ⁠⠀
• We have two sessions, one on Friday at 8pm and one on Sundays at 1pm. If you have to miss a class, you're welcome to jump into the other session. ⁠⠀
• Classes are about an hour and a half long. ⁠⠀
• Beer lists are sent out ahead of time and they include both LA local and more widely distributed examples, so you can join the class from anywhere on Earth. ⁠⠀
• Class starts Friday/Sunday, Oct 16th/18th. ⁠⠀

Oktoberfest Beers! 🇩🇪

Aka - Festbier, aka Vienna Lager, aka Märzen, aka Hal’s favorite beer style.

• Why is it illegal for US brewers to call their beer “Oktoberfest”?

💻 We’ve made so many beer friends during our Virtual Beer Tastings. We’ve had old guests (Hey, @), repeat guests (Hey, Gail & Greg! Hey, Parkhills! Hey & Natalie! Hey, !) and many new guests. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
We’ve been able to find some new favorite beers like Take Action from and Relax from and revisit some old favorites like Popfuji from and Raspberry Blush from . And even find a surprising summer crusher with Honey Ginger. All thanks to our friends at . ⁠⠀

We are SO over Covid and really ready for it to be done (whatever that means), but we’re thankful for the opportunity to still drink beer with amazing people. ⁠⠀

👂 It's been over 5 months since LA Beer Hop has been allowed inside of a brewery in order to protect the safety of our community. We've pivoted to doing Virtual Tastings, which have been a great way to connect with guests that we haven't seen in many years and as well as a many new faces. But realistically, virtual business has only been able to account for about 5% of what our sales would have been in this time. To look at that from a different angle, our income has been down 95% for 5 months with no promise of an upswing anytime soon. Government programs helped for a while, but now the small business relief effort has taken a backseat because we have to save the USPS and the democratic soul of America. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Here's one way to help. The are asking to be treated equally to the many restaurants and pubs that have been able to open under strict guidelines. Not asking for a lot, just the same as what other industries are getting. ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
This doesn't even mean we can begin tours. But it's a careful, measured and considerate step towards reopening safely in this pre-Vaccine world. We can't accept what we have right now as "The New Normal" because it leaves too many people out. @ Los Angeles, California
