Kiewit Power Holiday Party

Kiewit Power Holiday Party Find and share information about the 2016 Run for the Roses Kiewit Power Holiday Party here.

10/31/2017

For those of you who haven't heard, Holiday parties will be held by individual projects and/or departments. This is in lieu of a single large party in Kansas City. This makes sense with such a high percentage of our staff spread across the country (even more so than in recent years). Managers will plan something that is best suited to the group size and location, as well as being most meaningful to those involved. We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season!

Here are the links to the holiday party photos. You should be able to download any photo, however, because of the high-resolution, it might take longer than usual. They are from two different photographers.

Found this hat store that is stocked with vintage men and ladies derby style hats from the 1920's and beyond. They have a page and are a local owned business on 135th and state line. http://exclusivelyforyouhatstore.com/

Notes for the Holiday Party on Saturday, December 10th

Photos begin at 6:00 pm and Doors open at 6:30 pm.

A donation to Braden’s Hope is NOT required for the party however, a team from Braden’s Hope has donated their time to handle our “Video Horse Race Betting” at the Power of Hope Race Track at Kiewit Downs. Representatives from Braden’s Hope will be on hand in the photo lines at the entrance to the party. You may give your donation to them (they will have card swipers on site). They give you back “Braden Bucks” in the amount of your donation in $2 increments. These may be used to place bets for video horseracing. Again, this is optional!

Programs and wagering takes place on the dance floor. Each bet is $2. If you have a ticket for the winning horse (only 1st place horse wins) you will receive a winner’s ticket to enter a drawing at the end of the races. The race video will be on stage, as well as at each corner bar. Racing begins at 6:30 pm for 6 races, the last at 8:40 pm. You DO NOT need to be present to win, just write legibly and you MUST include a Kiewit email. The drawing will take place near 9:00 pm. Prizes: (2) $1,000 Visa Gift Cards, (2) $500 Visa Gift Cards and (10) $100 Gift Cards. Please remember these are volunteers and this is a game! There will be a lot of people and the process may be slow and may need to be modified as we go.

Formal photographs will be from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. There will be two photographers this year to speed the process. One line is for a traditional Christmas photo, the other background is more contemporary. Please do not take phone photos using the backdrop until after 9:00 pm – this really slows down the lines. All employees will receive the link to find your photos on Friday, December 16th.

The dinner tables get seated several times so please do not remove the table centerpieces until after 9:00 pm.

Please do not remove any decorations without permission. Some of them are rented and don’t belong to Kiewit. If there is something you are interested in, please let me know.

As in years past, you do not need to bring money to tip the bartenders. They are taken care of. If any bartender encourages or implies anything about tipping, please let me know. The only cash you should have on you is a donation for Braden’s Hope (optional) or a couple bucks for the valet/coat check.

Try to have your name on your phone somewhere for easy return in the event it is misplaced. The same goes for any evening bags (or wallets). If you tend to remove your shoes – you may want to write your name on the bottom of them. Only recently did I dispose of the ONE unclaimed black high heel from the 2014 Masquerade.

If you find a phone or purse (or shoe) that is without the owner, please give it to any of the OPCC staff onsite. Please do not take it back to your room to give to lost and found in the morning. Many people fly out the next morning and the ID to board the plane could be in that handbag. Both the OPCC and the Sheraton have lost in found boxes. In years past, almost everything eventually found its owner, but some took longer than others.

The band begins at 9:00 pm. DJ at 11:30 pm and Lights-On at 1:30 am.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Other than Amazon and Etsy, has anyone found a good place to buy hats/fascinators online? If you're out shopping this week, there have been hat sightings at Target, Kohl's, JCPenney, Dillard's, Macy's and Nordstrom. If you don't have time to shop until you arrive in KC, all of these stores are located in/near Oak Park Mall at 95th and Quivira (about 10 minutes from the Sheraton Hotel & OP Convention Center). Happy Shopping!

PLEASE NOTE: There has been a modification regarding child care this year –

KPC will cover the cost or airfare to fly your child(ren) to Kansas City for the District Meeting. However, as was the case last year, KPC will not be providing childcare services or events for children during the meeting or the holiday party. It is at the discretion of each project as to whether or not they will cover the cost of airfare for a relative to fly to your location to care for your child(ren) while you are in KC for the meeting and holiday party.

If you still have questions, please comment below and we'll try to get them answered as quickly as possible.

Thanks!

For those of you who’ve never heard of Rent the Runway – it’s an online service that provides designer dresses & accessory rentals. If you are one of those ladies who buy a dress only to wear it once and then let it collect dust and take up space in your closet (which is unfortunate as we all know how valuable closet space is!)…renting a dress is the way to go! Here is how it works:
1. Find It – you can filter by color, length, trend, occasion and more to find what you are looking for (a dress you LOVE, duh!)
2. Reserve It – choose a delivery and return date (you can rent for either 4 or 8 days). You can even add a backup size for FREE if you are in between sizes and aren’t sure which one will fit. You can also add a 2nd style dress for $32.50 if you can’t make up your mind between 2 options. If you do decide to add two dress styles to your cart for the same delivery date, the lower priced style will automatically discount to $32.50. Even with 2 styles, you are still allowed 1 free backup size per order.
3. Receive It – The dress will be delivered via USP to your home, office or hotel by 8pm on your delivery date (for a 4-day rental this would be the Thursday before the holiday party).
4. Return It – Returns are FREE, you just place items in the provided packaging (which includes a pre-paid shipping label) and then drop the package off at any UPS drop box on your return date (for a 4-day rental this would be the Sunday after the holiday party). You don’t have to worry about dry cleaning it or anything (RTR does it for you when they receive your return shipment).
A four day rental allows you to get the dress on Thursday to try on and make sure it fits, Friday you can accessorize and find the right shoes for the dress (if you haven’t already), Saturday you wear it (and work it, girl) to the party, Sunday you return it to the nearest UPS dropbox by noon. If the dress (and backup size both) don’t fit and you didn’t get a 2nd style either, you simply contact RTR and they’ll overnight you another option at no additional charge! The other great thing about RTR is that each dress has reviews from real people so you can read if the dress fits true to size, runs big/small, is comfortable, etc. They also rent accessories like jewelry and hats, although their hat selection is pretty slim. For more information and to browse dresses, visit their website - https://www.renttherunway.com/

I don’t know about you guys, but I think Rent the Runway should pay me for free advertising, lol! ;) Just kidding, but honestly…I personally have had great success with RTR so just wanted to share the option with those of you who have never heard of it; it’s definitely worth it considering some dresses are as low as $30 to rent!

Why buy when you can rent? Choose from thousands of designer pieces for special occasions and every day.
