Happy birthday to Lizzie Magie - Macomb's Inventor of Monopoly! 🎲 And happy one-year anniversary to the launch of Macombopoly — the interactive game you can play exclusively in Macomb’s Historic Downtown Courthouse Square with a FREE eATLAS app download. And check out those swanky new sidewalk slicks we’ve added, too!

To add to the celebration, the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce and Visit Unforgettable Forgottonia are launching new Chamber Gift Certificates, featuring Lizzie. They’re available for purchase at the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce and select local banks, and can be redeemed at participating businesses across McDonough County.

Fun fact: We personally worked with the Heretic Movie’s veteran art director and property master Dean Goodine to design a replica of the board game that you’ll see in the film from the rare original Landlords game created by Lizzie Magie which we have on display here in Macomb.

Heritic is now topping the charts on several streaming platforms, including Max, Hulu, and Prime Video. 🍿🎥 So, grab your popcorn and catch a glimpse of Macomb’s history and a mention of our own Lizzie Magie!

🎲 You can see our original Landlords game along with others games Lizzie invented on display in the window of Clock Tower Community Bank while you play Macombopoly on our downtown Square.

🍿🎥 Lizzie Magie has hit the big screen — alongside none other than Hugh Grant!

If you saw the thriller Heretic this winter (now streaming!), you know that Hugh’s character uses Lizzie’s invention of The Landlord’s Game and its evolution to modern-day Monopoly to help explain one of the film’s central tenets. We won’t spoil it for you, but it’s equal parts terrifying, thought-provoking, and well worth a watch!
