We achieved a great milestone Friday. Sooner or later, we know someone isn't going to like us. In fact, we anticipated a bad review after the history we share on our tour didn't fit what one guest wanted history to be. We just wanted our first 100 reviews to all be 5-star, and Friday we reached that goal. If you throw in TripAdvisor, we've got a perfect record of 110 5-star reviews.

We are so grateful when people take the time to share their experience with us. It is so important to us to hear that people feel we are representing our community well.

THROWBACK THURSDAY

On August 20th, 1619, the arrival of 20 men, women, and children from the Kingdom of Ndongo (today's Angola) at Jamestown marked the beginning of slavery in the New World. They were captured by Portuguese slave traders and then taken by British privateers who sold them to the colony.

There we no laws establishing slavery in Virginia, so the first recorded Africans in a British Colony were treated as indentured servants. In later decades, colonial laws shifted and Virginia established slavery in the 1660s . When it was established sixty years later as the last British Colony, Georgia outlawed the institution, but the ban was quickly removed.

Enslaved people arrived in Madison with the first settlers. The city was literally built on enslaved labor. When Sherman's March to the Sea arrived on Madison's streets in 1864 - 22 months after the Emancipation Proclamation - people held in slavery for generations were instantly set free. This immediately began a new journey of freedom for people seeing equal rights and protection as new American citizens.

On our Historic Madison Tour, we help you understand why Madison's story must be told with black and white perspective. How you experienced Madison's history was entirely dependent on the color of your skin.

WHEELHOUSE WEDNESDAY

The WheelHouse Madison, GA is a non-profit that helps small businesses and entrepreneurs raise all boats with one tide through connections that solve problems and help realize opportunities.

Bob met Jim Stradley of CyclePro at a Biscuits and Business event. Jim offers house calls for bicycle tune-ups and repairs. We had three bikes going unused because we could not get around to the hassle of loading them up, driving to a shop a half-hour away, dropping them off, and then going back to get them.

A quick call had Jim in our driveway the next day. Ninety minutes and a reasonable cost later, we had 3 bikes ready to hit the road.
