The logs still came down the Kennebec just like this when I was a kid in the 50s. They were color coded on one end so that these loggers could push them towards the paper mill, then onto Augusta Lumber Company.

Daily Log drives down the Kennebec River in Maine ended in 1976, marking the conclusion of a historic era for moving timber, as environmental pressures and new transportation methods led to the ban by the State Legislature.

Good Morning!
Some snow is expected today but snowfall amounts will be generally light. The snow will taper off this evening followed by mainly cloudy skies overnight. A few snow showers are expected Sunday. A period of steadier snow is expected to affect mainly portions of Downeast Maine Sunday night, and some snow accumulation is possible by Monday morning. Looking ahead to next week the big story will be the return to much colder temperatures.
