The WRC is coming to the U.S., ICYMI. As a result, the Overmountain Rally will take a hiatus, American Rally Association says. In its place for 2027, The Boone Forest Rally, organized by Backroads of Appalachia, becomes a national event.
It’s another win for one of the poorest areas in the country, Eastern Kentucky. This past weekend, the region hosted the Ultra4 USA Nationals, a major off-road event.
“Kentucky is showing what’s possible when motorsports becomes part of the tourism conversation,” said Jedediah Smith, Backroads of Appalachia Director of Operations. “GNCC. Ultra4 USA. ARA. Drift Appalachia Touge Masters. Multiple national motorsports events, along with countless car clubs traveling here to enjoy our roads, scenery, and communities.
“Those visitors book rooms, buy meals, fuel up, shop locally, and find reasons to come back,” he continued. “I’m proud to be part of the work helping make this happen. Even more proud to see Appalachian communities getting the attention and opportunities they deserve.”
The other change? The Ojibwe Forests Rally in Minnesota becomes a Super Regional and the Oregon Trail Rally becomes a National event.

▪️ Oct. 7-9: Lake Superior Performance Rally, Marquette, Mich.
▪️ Nov. 11-13: The Boone Forest Rally, London & McKee, Ky.
