This weekend, our community comes together to pause, reflect, and honor the true meaning of Memorial Day. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έβœ¨

As you walk through downtown McMinnville, you will notice the Blue Star Memorial Highway marker sitting proudly under the shade trees on the square. This marker stands as a tribute to the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who have defended the U.S., and serves as a gentle reminder that the freedom we enjoy to explore our trails, gather with family, and slow down to catch our breath is a gift protected by their profound dedication.

Whether you are enjoying a quiet weekend at home or spending time with loved ones in our local parks, we hope you take a moment to honor the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Have a safe, meaningful and peaceful Memorial Day weekend, McMinnville.

The Barren Fork is calling. πŸ›ΆπŸΈ

Sundays were made for slow water and great company. If you need to catch your breath before the work week starts, follow the river:

πŸ›Ά 11:00 AM: Launch from Smooth Rapids Outfitters. Whether you are in a kayak or a tube, let the river do the heavy lifting. The water is cool and the pace is slow. It is the best way to unplug and reset.

πŸ” 1:30 PM: Stick around for lunch on the Smooth Rapids patio. Their seasonal menu is officially back and it is the perfect riverside reward after a few hours on the water.

🌳 3:30 PM: Walk it off on the Barren Fork Greenway. This shaded trail follows the water and offers a quiet, easy stroll to clear your head. It is one of our favorite spots to just slow down and take in the scenery.

🍽️ 5:30 PM: Head to the square for dinner and cocktails at The Local. Whether you are craving a craft drink or a solid meal to end the weekend, the atmosphere here is exactly what you need to finish your Sunday on a high note.

Real life is better when you slow it down. See you on the water.

Just fifteen minutes from the square the landscape completely changes. Rock Island State Park is where the Caney Fork, Rocky and Collins rivers meet and right now the waterfalls are at their peak.

If you need a Saturday reset this is the place:

πŸ’¦ Twin Falls: Take the short walk to the overlook to see the water pouring out of the limestone bluffs. It is one of the most photographed spots in Tennessee for a reason.

πŸ₯Ύ The Gorge: For those who want a more tactile experience the hike down into the gorge offers a close up look at the rugged rock formations and rushing water.

🧺 Picnic Break: Grab some takeout from the square before you head out and find a spot at the Sandbar picnic area to enjoy the view.

Nature has a way of helping you find your center. Come see the rush for yourself.

The long weekend is almost here. Memorial Day is a time for remembrance and community, and we are looking forward to a weekend that honors that spirit while giving you space to unplug.

If you are looking to explore local landmarks, here is how to spend your extra time off:

πŸ›οΈ Falcon Rest Mansion & Gardens: Take a guided tour of this 1890s Victorian mansion, often called Tennessee’s Biltmore. It is open Wednesday through Sunday (9 AM – 5 PM), so it is a perfect spot to start your weekend with a stroll through the gardens.

⛰️ Isha Institute of Inner-sciences: Head up the mountain for some true peace. You can hike the bluff trails to see spring-fed waterfalls or just sit and take in the view. It is open daily from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM and is one of the most unique spots in the region to truly catch your breath.

πŸ”¦ Cumberland Caverns: Go underground to beat the heat. Whether you take a walking tour to see the famous Volcano Room or just want to see the scale of these historic caves, it is an adventure you won't forget. They are open daily, but booking ahead is always a good move for holiday weekends.

Start planning your visit now and see why life is better when you move at a slower pace.
