Kim Holl Interior Designs Do you have a blank canvas and need a place to start, are you looking for someone to design your new space, are you looking to refresh an existing room?

I have always had a flare and interest in interior design and decided to venture into business after much encouragement from my friends and family. My strengths include creativity and an attention to detail. Each and every project is treated like a puzzle and I ensure that each piece fits your needs and style while creating a harmonious look throughout your home. I love a challenge whether it be

with the design of a room, the budget or a space that needs to fit many functions. I am patient, easy to work with and very flexible. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in business from West Virginia University. I received my training in interior design from the New York Institute of Art and Design . Throughout my career, I have held many positions including a case manager for children with a mental illness diagnosis, team member for a process and productivity improvement team at a large corporation and a manager of department for local non profit organization. These many experiences have helped me to build strong leadership, communication and organizational skills. My husband and I have lived in the Harrisburg area for over 20 years, and that is where we reside with our family. In my spare time, I enjoy antique shopping, flea markets, cooking, travel, gardening, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.

This used to be an unusable coat closet. Now, this is a grand focal point as you enter this homeowners house. It definitely adds the “wow” factor.

Remember the design with the fireplace, two chairs and sectional?? Well, construction is coming along. We have picked fabrics for draperies and furniture. I cannot wait to show you the once white painted brick fireplace that is now blue... My client said that I nudged her out of her comfort zone and she couldn’t be happier!

I told my husband that I wanted to redo our laundry room closet this weekend. He replied - it’s fine, isn’t it? It was fine but looked messy. I knew that it could be better.

When I work with clients, sometimes I suggest that they take a picture of their room. As the old saying goes - pictures don’t lie. It’s the same with pictures of yourself and pictures of your house.

We took a picture and went to Lowe’s. I told him that it would only take a few hours and I was so wrong.

Did I tell you that I love to organize??

One person Jess Kovac guessed the design that my client chose and that was design #5.

This is why I try to give people as many options as possible because my preference is rarely their first choice 😊

Do you want to see what I am up to this week? Which design do you think that these clients chose?

Let me give you some background. We are using existing furniture in this design with the exceptions of maybe an entertainment unit, a few small unique tables and perhaps an ottoman.

The room needs to be spacious to allow for a walker to have access to the already existing blue chair pictured. You will see a bird cage in some of the pictures and the little love bird is staying in this room. Also, the built in bookcase to the right of the room is staying so I am trying to balance that out in the designs.

So let’s see what you think? I presented my client with five preliminary designs yesterday. She chose one and from there I will update and add additional details.

Before you vote for the design that you like, let me give you a little background. This home was built in the 1940s. The homeowner loves red, blue, pink and florals and has a lot of collectibles to display. The TV is currently in the corner beside the fireplace and lastly, she has mission style tables that she would like to use in the new design.

Which design do you think that she chose?

COVID-19 has brought with it many changes including more people working from home. What are best ergonomic chairs available? What lighting is best for all of these Zoom calls? What are the best stand/sit desks? These are some of the questions that I have been researching to help my clients create the most relaxing, productive and organized spaces.

With the demand for items for the home office high, supplies are hard to find and wait times when ordering are like nothing I have experienced. Have you considered repurposing a piece for your office? Creativity might be the key and consignment stores are packed. After all, didn't we all clean out during quarantine?

I am often asked what size of rug I recommend for a room. A good rule of thumb that I use is to choose a rug that is large enough to bring the room together. That can be accomplished by having at least the front legs of all of the furniture pieces on the rug. A bigger rug is always better than a rug that is too small.

Planning a project? Keep in mind that HGTV is good for ideas and bad for setting expectations. Projects in real life do not happen as fast nor do they cost what they do on TV. COVID has not changed that a bit.
