With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy, we'll make a not-so-scholarly determination of how you rate on the experience birder scale.

And … since binoculars are tools of the trade for every birder/naturalist/outdoors enthusiast, we'll cover hands-on tips and tricks on how to properly adjust them and quickly focus on your target. BYOBinoculars or borrow ours for this hands-on portion of the talk. https://busy-birding.com/nature-talks

Summer - and Texas-hot temps - have arrived!
Focus on new arrivals shifts from not new spring migrants but their fledglings.

Butterflies are some of the other 'winged ones' we watch. Passionflowers surprisingly thrive on our limestone hillside when the rains come. Here is our 1st bloom of the season. The plant is our reliable source for the Gulf and Variegated Fritillary caterpillars we've taken for show-and-tell to so many events.

A great collaboration for San Antonio Metro Area and as always, a victory for Citizen Science!

Globally, SA came in 2nd for species (4,816), 2nd for observations (102,653), 5th for observers (1,879) and 3rd for identifiers (1,731 with 65% research grades, higher than 1st and 2nd place).

Keep up the momentum and continue sharing iNat with others and cataloging all nature's creatures year-round : )

The official results of the 2026 City Nature Challenge are in! 💚

Across our 12-county region, 1,879 observers documented 4,816 species in just four days. That includes 69 at-risk species, 99 species found nowhere else, and 54 Texas Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). 65% of observations reached Research Grade.

That's real science. And you made it happen.

Globally, more than 106,000 people across 754 cities and 61 countries took part, making CNC the largest community science event of its kind on the planet.

Results from nature teams across our region will be shared at our Wrap-Up Party this Sunday, May 17. You won't want to miss it!

The numbers reflect the official snapshot taken at midnight on May 10. As more observations get identified, the totals will continue to grow.

Thank you to every observer, identifier, and community partner who joined us this year. The data you collected is now part of the permanent scientific record!
