Got Monarchs ? Soon perhaps. This beauty was at Medina River Oaks Courts last year.

Generally - One flyway traverses Texas in a 300-mile wide path stretching from Wichita Falls to Eagle Pass. Monarchs enter the Texas portion of this flyway during the last days of September. By early November, most have passed through into Mexico.

The 2nd flyway is situated along the Texas coast and lasts roughly from the third 3rd week of October to mid-November.

Hmmmmm...Merlin didn't pick up any giraffes on any of our recent tours but we'll keep our eyes and ears open.

Summer - and Texas-hot temps - have arrived!
Focus on new arrivals shifts from not new spring migrants but their fledglings.

Butterflies are some of the other 'winged ones' we watch. Passionflowers surprisingly thrive on our limestone hillside when the rains come. Here is our 1st bloom of the season. The plant is our reliable source for the Gulf and Variegated Fritillary caterpillars we've taken for show-and-tell to so many events.
