Everyman Genealogy

Everyman Genealogy Everyman Genealogy is based on the belief that anyone can learn about their family history and that every history is important. Native American research.

Hi, my name's Rhi and I'm the founder of Everyman Genealogy. I have always had a love of family history. When I was a child, my father and I would take trips to track down documents about our family. We'd record stories from our elder relatives, share photos and connect with cousins and call it a "vacation". As an adult, I have been researching for family and friends for 14 years. In August 2010,

I began offering services to the public to help them along in discovering their family. I have researched family histories across the United States. My current personal research is leading to United Kingdom and Scotland records. Specialties: Local research in Northwest Indiana. Transcriptions of handwritten documents. As a reminder, tomorrow I'll be hosting a live stream on Twitch.tv to demonstrate basic skills for using DNA for genealogy. If you're new to the hobby, interested in learning more before you jump in, or so deep into the cousin matches that you've lost your way, stop on by at 4 pm CST!

Twitch is the world's leading video platform and community for gamers. More than 45 million gamers gather every month on Twitch to broadcast, watch and chat about gaming. Twitch's video platform is the backbone of both live and on-demand distribution for the entire video game ecosystem. This include...

Alright, cats and kittens! Remember this Saturday to join Ana for a live stream explaining BASIC DNA matching skills on Twitch.tv. We'll provide a link when we're getting up and running at 4 pm Saturday!

01/30/2017

Hey, everybody! I'm sure you've wondered where the heck Ana went for all this time. Well, I went back to school to increase my skill sets, did a bit of guest blogging for another site, and generally lived a crazy life!

But that's not what I've come here to say today. Heck no! I have been trolling a few genealogy pages and found there was a lot of confusion about DNA matching. Not even just new folk, but folk that are taking it WAAAAAYYYYYY to complicated to figure out. So this Saturday I'll be introducing my Twitch.tv chanel where I will LIVESTREAM an explanation and show my process. If successful, I will be adding this format for a score of genealogy items (demo of products, actual research, websites I use, and just video blogging with live Q & A). Time is still TBA, but let your friends who are interested in DNA for genealogy that I'll be up and LIVE Saturday February 4th!

Genealogist.com is a new website "coming soon" (for the last year) that just added something more than their logo to their website. It looks interesting, but I'm becoming impatient for their launch. If you've not signed up for notice when it goes live, I'd recommend using a throw away email until they are more forthcoming with details.......... but still sign up in case it's awesome sauce.

I'm starting an Ebay store for the items I find in antique stores. There will be unmarked items like postcards (see this first one), marked items like photographs and documents, as I find them. Purchases help me find and purchase more items and hopefully get the marked items back to their families. I'll also be donating 25%-50% of all purchases to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in honor of my grandfather Louis W. Gibson who believed in the wonderful work the hospital does.

A book full of names, photos, occupations, descriptive marks, and more........ I think this is the first time I've ever wished for a public drunkard to be a member of my family.

An Edwardian book of police mugshots that gives an insight into early 20th century Dundee is to go up for auction. Published in 1905, the book depicts dozens of citizens who were banned from the city’s bars after flouting the era’s strict public drinking laws.

I have found some post cards for a Mr. R. T. Buckingham of Indiana, Kay Buckingham, and Gary. I believe Gary is R. T.'s son and Kay may be his wife or daughter. They are mostly vacation notes from the 1960's. If anyone knows the family and would be interested in the post cards, please message me. They are being sold at a market and I'd like to return them to family wanting them if at all possible. I would've purchased them, but it was between a box of postcards and some photos. Photos won. I will be back at the market within the month should someone want me to take the trip.

You'll get more posts from me starting this month as I am revamping the focus of my blog. Before I start, however, I think we need to come to an agreement:

There's only one wrong way.

It's not easy tracing one's lineage. There are more questions than answers, and a slew of dead ends. But when you get past the hurdles, the experience is one of the most rewarding you can ever have. This blog chronicles my own search, lists my favorite (and least favorite) finds and links, and much…

I do enjoy a good colorful fan chart. You can upload a GEDCOM or log in to your FamilySearch account and use the Family Tree to create the reports

Have you used www.createfan.com? Along with creating great printable fan charts, did you know you can also create a word cloud with the most popular names in your family tree?

We were fascinated by this article about the pioneering work on treating shell-shock that was carried out at Craiglockhart Hospital in Edinburgh during WW1. Famously, the poets, Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen and Robert Graves, all met at Craiglockhart when they were recovering from shell-shock. http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/z9g7fg8
