Gamla (Old) Uppsala, Sweden. Church and bell tower from 12th century. Rune carvings from the 11th century. Burial mounds date to the 4 and 5th century. Folklore says these mounds are where Odin, Thor and Freyr. One excavation from the 19th century revealed burnt remains of a man and animals. In addition, were warrior equipment both domestic and imported. Remains showed the warrior was well traveled!

While in Sweden, don't forget the VASA Museum! This ship was the most powerful warship of it's time. Ordered by King Gustavus Adolphus. Construction was completed in 1628; she sank 1400 yds into her maiden voyage after a slight wind pushed it over! The ship was salvaged in 1961 with the hull largely intact.

Did you know? At Thingvellir National Park you can walk where the North American and Eurasian Tectonic plates diverge! The Birthplace of Democracy: It is home to the world's oldest parliament (Althing) founded in 930 AD and held Iceland's national assembly until 1798. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is also where Iceland declared independence in 1944!
