SAFELY

SPECIAL PRIVATE LESSON RATE: $500 FOR FIRST STUDENT;
$50 OFF FOR EACH ADDITIONAL STUDENT CERTIFIED AT THE SAME TIME

ADDITIONAL COSTS:

+$65 for OPEN WATER crew pack (manual, dive planning slate, dive log and file folder);
+$20 for ID card;
+$25 for instructional DVD or $5 TO RENT IT;
+RENTAL GEAR ( if you buy your mask, fins and s

norkel from "my" dive shop, you can use the necessary rental gear FREE for the length of the certification class. That is like getting your gear free, b/c you would pay $10 per piece of equipment per day for the class.);
+BOAT FEE ($50-65 per two tank boat dive. You could do one or two days of this, depending on whether you want it easier or cheaper. The normal rate is $65 or $75 but as a student it is $50 or so, depending on which boat you choose.) Higher levels available as well.

$100 special rate for "Discover SCUBA" to give you a feel for diving without certification. $100 includes rental gear and 1 open water dive in shallow water for ~20-60 minutes. BONUS: Free dive health insurance for duration of certification class. CALL ARIANE AT 646-251-4223

Juvenile lionfish, about 3-in body length, not including fins. A few minutes later, I found it's buddy. Neither are on the reef anymore. My compromise to killing them: I remove them and put them in a tank so that they cannot harm the reef but they get to live. They are actually extremely docile, slow-moving fish who just happened to have been born in the wrong place.
