In Riley We Trust!!

RILEY HERE... Yup you read that right! I'm gonna try my very best to give you my best Riley Report ATV Style (even though if you know me you KNOW I'm a snowmobile girl)...

First of all I'd like to point out that while Memorial Day Weekend is traditionally a rainy/wet weekend, I have never seen the ATV Trails not open by Memorial Day Weekend in the 8 years I've worked here.

As you can probably guess, our phone lines have been quite busy over the past 24 hours with concerned guests over the delayed local trail openings. Here's what you should know:

Local ATV Clubs including Patten ATV Club , Katahdin Valley Wheelers & Island Falls Free Wheelers ATV Club originally posted that they'd be opening their trails for the season on May 24th then posted that they'd be postponing trail openings until June 1st due to the wet conditions of field trails, etc. After careful reconsideration and speaking with business owners, they've collectively made changed that decision to reopen trails FRIDAY, MAY 30TH.

Shin Pond Trail Riders ATV Club's Trails WILL be opening THIS weekend, Saturday ,May 24th as planned along with Knowles Corner ATV Club (who reopened their trails last week) and with that we are encouraging people to come up ride and more importantly help us reopen our trails. Bring your chainsaws, help us sign trails, all while getting your braaaap on.

Expect early season riding, as ALWAYS, ride with caution.

Coming to stay with us this weekend? Here's what options we've come up with in addition to our standard cancellation policy...

Option A) COME THIS WEEKEND ANYWAYS! Help us open our trails, guests staying with us this weekend who come help with trail work will receive 25% off their reservation. Come see me! Oh have we at Shin Pond Village have missed you over the past two months! Come support Local businesses! Craig's Clam Shop just reopened for the summer season! Stop into the Patten Lumbermen's Museum, as this weekend is its Annual Fiddlehead Festival! My favorite local band, The Beatstones are playing at The Shin Pond Pub Friday night. Take a scenic drive through Baxter State Park, as the gates reopened just last week. Stop into Matagamon Wilderness for an ice cream!

Option B ) Move your reservation to the following weekend to save your deposit! The weekend after Memorial Day Weekend is traditionally very SLOW so this gives us the opportunity to allow our guests to shimmy their reservations if those dates work for them.

As always, I wish I could control the weather... but if that was the case we'd have 6 feet of snow all the time!!

On a real note, I hope not to make ATV Riley Reports a normal thing, as ATV Trail conditions tend to not be as wishy washy as my beloved snowmobile trails are.
