So much going on in December in Minocqua!

🎄Merry in Minocqua all season long! Check out all the festive fun happening here in Downtown Minocqua! Here is a list of a few events coming up, starting this Saturday! Shop Small Saturday is this Saturday 11/29 - 🎄 head to Minocqua to support your favorite mom n’ pops, bring the kids for the Elf Hunt with two age groups and prizes (see Minocqua.org for details), listen to the singing group - Trillium 12-3pm at the Gaslight Square signing holiday favorites, then stay for our ‘Small Town Tree Lighting’ with caroling, hot cocoa, and Santa, arriving by firetruck to meet you and light our town's tree!

First sticking snow of the season at Green Heron Cabin, and it is breathtakingly beautiful.

We are cozy in the cabin, but wishing safe travels to anyone out on the road today!

The ice castle is complete! Eagle River is a short drive from the cabin, and a fun day trip.

Complete. Thank you to all Eagle River firefighters and volunteers that helped with construction of the castle.

When you arrive at the cabin right at dusk and get to watch your rescue dogs, who are southern gals from Alabama and Texas, enjoy the snow for a bit before it gets dark. 🥹😍🩷❄️🐕🐶

new grill, who dis?

We've got a brand spankin' new propane grill at the Green Heron. Grilling at the cabin is one of my favorite things to do, especially in the summer when there's fresh sweet corn! 🌽🤤 Our summer 2025 dates are booking quickly, so if you can picture yourself grilling on the deck, looking out onto the lake, and then enjoying your meal on the screen porch (bugs bye 👋 ), be sure to book asap!

If you're wondering if this cozy holiday photo is the Green Heron Cabin... it is! We had the best family holiday there. Crackling fire, yummy food, games, snowshoeing... and of course watching the Packers play at a local bar.

A Christmas Story

Years ago, my family rented a beautiful old home in the middle of nowhere, North Dakota, for Christmas. We were literally in the smallest town I’d ever seen, surrounded by frigid winds and deep snow. The conditions were far from ideal—the heat struggled to reach the upper floors, and the entire place was just chilly. But despite all that, it turned out to be the best Christmas I’ve ever had.

We spent our days together playing cards, watching Christmas movies, and cooking THE BEST FOOD and then capped off the night singing karaoke until midnight at the local pub. Every detail of that Christmas is etched in my memory—not because of the setting or the weather, but because it was simply "us". No hustle, no distractions. Just our family, together, enjoying each other’s company. There was nowhere we needed to be, and in that quiet space, we could just be.

That Christmas reminded me that the best memories are made when you’re fully present with the ones you love. Create that kind of Christmas with your family, away from all the busyness. I promise, you’ll never forget it. ~Amy
