We had a great day scouting locations with the soon to be Mr. & Mrs. This village is so cute and quaint. It will make my job on Saturday pretty easy with so much beauty around every corner.

This sweet little cherub has decided that spring has sprung. She’s been soaking up the sunshine and basking in the perfect weather we have had this week. Thanks for making sure to capture all of these moments! 💗 💘💗💘

This may be my favorite photo taken so far on this trip. Unfortunately it makes seasick just to look at it. I guess I have to print it billboard sized and put it in our front room!

The next day we walked 22,000 steps around Varenna and Bellagio at Lake Como. I was excited to visit Lake Como and had really high expectation. Lake Como blew every expectation out of the water. It was majestic. I understand why it had been a tourist destination for 1,500 years. If you ever find yourself in the Lombardi region of Italy, MAKE SURE TO GET TO LAKE COMO!

Italy days 4 & 5:

The photos in this post cover days spent walking around Milan and Lake Como. Milan is huge and sprawling. If you ever visit I highly recommend spending the money to stay in the area immediately around the Duomo or invest in a metro pass. We chose the metro pass since 3 days of unlimited rides on any form of public transportation is only €13.

The Milan Duomo is the largest cathedral in Europe. It took more than 6 centuries to complete with construction beginning in yhe 1360’s and not ending until the 1960’s. As a result it has some of the most complete and detailed carvings and statues I have ever seen, and that is just on the outside.

On the inside, you will find Italy’s largest pipe organ, billboard sized renaissance oil paintings, and one of my favorite sculptures on all time. Marco d'Agrate’s depiction of St Bartholomew skinned from 1562 may look like St. Bartholomew is draped in robes, but it is actually his skin. He was one of the 12 apostles and after the ascension he traveled to what is now greater Armenia where he was skinned alive and beheaded for converting the King to Christianity. The sculpture is one of the earliest representations of human anatomy below the skin.

After the Duomo we visited the Santuario di San Bernardino alle Ossa. It’s a small chapel decorated in the bones of the dead that were formerly buried in the small cemetery on the grounds. Two separate events destroyed the cemetery to the point that the graves lost all markings and headstones and nobody knew who the graves belonged to. The villagers decided to exhume the bodies and honor the dead by displaying their bones in the chapel. It’s the same scenario as the Seldec Ossuary that we visited in the Czech Replublic almost 10 years go.

In one of the photos you can see the outside of the small chapped with an older looking brick pillar in front of the bell tower. That pillar was an executioners tower used to hang people starting in the 1070’s. The chapel in the background is where one of my favorite artists (Caravaggio) was christened. I find it likely that all of the macabre places in his childhood influenced his darker style of art.

Travel day 2 & 3:

We made it safely to Milan after a late night out in Copenhagen. We stumbled upon an industry night at a local craft brewery and it was awesome! Made me wish we were staying in Copenhagen another day or two.

That being said,I love bing back in Italy! Milan feels like a big city, but it has some charming neighborhoods.

The Italian Riviera on the other hand feels so unique and so special. It’s the type of image that comes to mind when you think of the Mediterranean coast of Italy.

On our way to Milan we have a long layover in Copenhagen. Why not make the best of it?

We haven’t been very active on social media lately, but that is likely to change. This process has been 8 years of hopes, dreams, attempts, upsets, frustration, and perseverance. We are thrilled to share the best news of our lives. Stay tuned for the excitement, beauty, and wackiness to follow.

I love astrophotography, so I took advantage of the last weekend that galactic core of the Milky Way will be visible to the northern hemisphere. We were camping and the additional elevation reduced some light platoon and increases clarity. I really want to print this one poster sized and put it in my room!

Last night we said our final goodbye to one of our babies. Bailey spent an incredible 9 years with us and we are so thankful for the time we had with her. She gave us more joy, happiness, and love than we ever could have imagined. She will be with us in spirit for the rest of our lives. We will miss you Big Mama.
