National Park Week starts today 🏞️and this year, the National Park Service is celebrating 110 years.

Here in Monterey County, Pinnacles National Park has a history that goes back even further. President Theodore Roosevelt established Pinnacles as a national monument in 1908, protecting its distinctive rock formations and caves. More than a century later, it officially became a national park in 2013.

🏁 Before there was Monterey Car Week, there was more than a century of automotive history in Monterey County.

From some of California’s earliest automobile races at Del Monte in the early 1900s, to the first Pebble Beach Road Races and Concours d’Elegance in 1950, the opening of Laguna Seca in 1957 and the events that followed, Monterey County’s connection to car culture has been generations in the making. 🚘

Today, that history lives on across the county as Monterey Car Week brings together historic racing, concours, collector cars, auctions, automotive innovation and enthusiasts from around the world.

🚗 Highway 1 access: Highway 1 is being restricted to tourist traffic in the Big Sur area. Please avoid the affected area, keep roads clear for emergency vehicles and use Highway 101 as an alternate route when traveling to Monterey County from the south. Because conditions are changing quickly, check official sources before traveling.

🏨 Evacuation lodging: Hotels in Monterey County and San Luis Obispo County are offering special rates for residents and visitors displaced by the Timber Fire. The list is being updated in real time as additional properties confirm availability. Find current participating hotels, rates and contact information at: SeeMonterey.com/community-connection
