The Long Hiatus has Ended
I started this page years ago to document my travels with my father during his last years of his life over his beloved Susquehanna County backroads. The effects of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and CTE took him from us and took his stories, of which he had many from his rich life. One day I got him in my car and took him for a ride down a dirt road. Half way down the road he came back and told a story he remembered. I had him back if only for a moment and he benefitted by finding lucidity which calmed him. Thus began our travels and this page.
He has since left this world permanently. Yet, there are so many roads in this county we did not see together.
Lately, I have started to make my own way back to exploring the roads accompanied now with a new four legged, over-eager, more than willing dog. Along with some divine signs I believe are from Dad, with this dog at my side, I will be adding more posts to this page. Please share and rebuild it if you like it enough.
Ely Lake Road was shown to me by a friend and I fell in love with it. Its a sneaky bit of a road. Saturday, dog and I walked to what I thought was the end until I asked myself “where the h&ll is Ely Lake?”. I looked and saw the road actually slid along the main road on the left, forming Bunnell’s Corners, and continued off the left up a hill. That part of the road turned out to be the best part of the trip! It was gorgeous up to what I was searching for - the cute Ely Lake.
So, to the Ely’s I know, Jennifer Ely and Guy, do you have anything you can add about the road I presume is named from your family? I invite you to share here…
May the road rise to meet you and may the wind be always at your back.
