Valley View High School Jazz Ensemble scores High Marks

The jazz ensemble at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley scored an “excellent” rating at the Riverside City College Jazz Festival, held May 8-9. The music director is Loren Gamarra.

Musicians Isaiah Stiner, Matthew Guevara, Marquise Deville and Victor Rodriguez each received an award for outstanding musicianship; Guevara and Rodriguez were also recognized as outstanding soloists.

Canyon Springs High School Earns Top Spot at 2015 Solar Cup

The school was among 41 teams representing Metropolitan’s six-county, 5,200 square-mile service area that includes Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura counties. Solar Cup is a school-year-long program in which students build, equip and race 16-foot, single-seat boats powered only by the sun.

Canyon Springs High School, located in Moreno Valley, won first place in the veteran’s division, while Oxford Academy, located in Cypress, took the top prize in the rookie division at the three-day competition at Metropolitan’s Lake Skinner in the Temecula Valley of southwestern Riverside County.

Animal Shelter to Get New Kennels

The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has awarded Moreno Valley a $20,000 grant that will be used to build an intake area for dogs at the city’s shelter. Construction will begin in June and take about three months to complete.

Moreno Valley Schools Win Seven Awards!

Moreno Valley schools led the Inland area in the number of schools honored by the state for innovative approaches to meeting education standards.

Seven middle and high schools were recognized this week by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson with the California Golden Ribbon Schools Award – the most of any district in Riverside or San Bernardino counties.

The Moreno Valley Unified School District campuses are: Badger Springs Middle, Bayside Community Day, Landmark Middle, Sunnymead Middle, Vista Heights Middle, Valley View High and Vista del Lago High.
