When an accomplished, well-traveled executive gushes about a safari camp, and tops it off with a smiley-face emoji, you know their trip is off to a great start.

Before my clients ever get on a plane, we get to know each other pretty well. I hear their concerns, answer their many questions, assuage their fears. And then, off they go… often times, I don’t hear from them once they are in the bush, and I always take that as a good sign. After all, I want them to be so entranced by the experience that the modern world is the furthest thing from their minds.

And that is usually the way it goes, but occasionally I do hear from my clients while they are traveling. It’s like getting a postcard and puts a smile on my face. I loved getting this message recently from a couple who started at Mala Mala Rattray’s Camp in South Africa’s Sabi Sands, before moving on to the deeper bush in Botswana’s Okavango Delta (Vumbura Plains and DumaTau), and then wrapping up with gorilla tracking in Rwanda (Bisate).
