One Disney planning question that comes up every fall:

Is Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party worth adding to your trip?

My answer isn’t automatically yes.

It depends on your family.

If Halloween is your thing, you love special entertainment and you’re excited about experiencing Magic Kingdom in a completely different atmosphere, it may be something you really enjoy.

But it’s also an additional-ticket event, which means I want to look at the whole vacation before telling someone they should add it.

How many park days do you have?

What else are you trying to fit into the trip?

Are your kids going to make it through a late evening?

And most importantly—is this something your family would actually be excited about?

That last question matters more to me than simply saying, “You’re going during Halloween season, so you should do the party.”

You don’t have to vacation the way everyone else vacations.

I think sometimes we get so caught up in what we’re supposed to do on a trip that we forget to ask whether we actually want to do it.

You don’t have to visit every attraction.

You don’t have to get off the ship in every port.

You don’t have to change hotels three times because someone told you that’s the best way to see Europe.

And you definitely don’t have to fill every hour of every day.

Some people genuinely love a packed itinerary. Others need pool afternoons, a balcony and absolutely nowhere they need to be.

Neither one is doing vacation wrong.

When I’m helping someone plan, I’d much rather know how you actually like to travel than how you think you’re supposed to travel.

So tell me—which sounds more like you?

Give me a plan and let’s GO 😂

Please build some NOTHING into my vacation.

I’m heading back to Walt Disney World next Saturday—and I want to take you along with me!

I’ve been to Disney many times, both personally and as a travel advisor, but one of the things I love is that there’s always something new for me to experience, notice or learn.

And this trip has something I’m especially excited about. On September 22, I’ll be doing a Disney Private VIP Tour with some of my fellow Magical Travel agents.

Of course I’m going to have fun—but I’ll also be paying attention to all those little things my travel-advisor brain notices. 😂

What surprised me? What would I tell a client? Who might really enjoy an experience? What would I do differently next time?

A good Disney park plan doesn’t start with trying to do everything.

It starts with figuring out what matters most to your family.

When I’m helping someone think through their park days, I want to know:

What are the absolute must-dos?

What would you really like to do if it works?

And what could you honestly skip without anyone being disappointed?

Those answers matter.

A family with a younger child who has been dreaming about one particular attraction probably shouldn’t plan their day the same way as a family traveling with teenagers who have completely different priorities.

And sometimes the best thing we can do is stop trying to squeeze every possible attraction, meal and experience into one day.

You’re supposed to be enjoying the vacation—not racing through a checklist.

So, if you were heading to Disney tomorrow, what is the ONE thing your family would absolutely have to do?

When you're planning Europe, do you want to see MORE places—or spend MORE time in each place?

Neither answer is wrong.

Some people love waking up somewhere new every few days. They want to see as much as they can and don't mind packing up and moving.

Other travelers would much rather choose one or two places, unpack, learn the neighborhood, find a favorite café and actually have time to wander without feeling like they're constantly heading to the next train or hotel.

And sometimes when I'm looking at an itinerary, my first thought is:

We need to take something out. 😂

More destinations doesn't automatically mean a better vacation.

One of the most important parts of planning a Europe trip is finding a pace that still lets it feel like a vacation.

So which traveler are you?

Give me as many places as possible!

Sometimes “working on your trip” looks a lot less exciting than the trip itself. 😂

It may be me sitting at my computer with multiple windows open comparing options.

Moving things around because one itinerary makes more sense than another.

Checking room configurations.

Looking at locations.

Going back through the notes from our conversation because you mentioned that one thing that really mattered to you.

Or realizing that what you originally asked me for might not actually be the option I think fits you best—and finding something else to show you.

A lot of travel planning really comes down to asking:

Does this make sense for this particular client?

Not every trip needs the same amount of planning. But when there are a lot of moving pieces, this is the part happening behind the scenes before you ever see the finished itinerary or quote.

And yes, my computer usually has entirely too many tabs open. 😂

When someone asks me which cruise cabin they should book, price is only one part of the answer.

An inside cabin can make perfect sense for someone who plans to spend very little time in their room.

For someone else, having natural light may really matter.

And then there are travelers who absolutely love having their own balcony—coffee outside in the morning, watching the ship pull into port, or having a quiet place to sit before dinner.

But before I recommend anything, I want to know more.

How many people are sharing the cabin?

How much space do you realistically need?

How important is your location on the ship?

And where would you rather spend your vacation budget?

Maybe having a balcony is really important to you.

Or maybe you’d rather put that money toward excursions, specialty dining or something else you’ll enjoy more.

I don’t automatically recommend the most expensive cabin.

I want to help you choose the cabin that makes sense for how you cruise.

Because just like hotels, there really isn’t one “best” cabin for everyone.

I can’t tell you the “best” Disney resort until I know how you’re actually going to use it.

That’s why when someone asks me, “Where should we stay at Disney?” I usually answer with more questions. 😂

What’s your budget?

How many people are traveling—and what kind of sleeping arrangement do you need?

Do you want to spend time enjoying the resort, pool and amenities?

Or are you the family that plans to leave early every morning, stay in the parks all day and basically come back to shower and sleep?

And then there’s the feel of the resort.

Do you want something that feels very themed and fun?

Or would you rather have something a little more relaxed or elegant?

Those answers can completely change what I recommend.

There are Disney resorts I really enjoy, but that doesn’t mean I would recommend the same one to every family.

The goal isn’t to pick my favorite.

It’s to figure out which one makes the most sense for your vacation.
