SCAM WARNING: A scammer is messaging people, pretending to be GreenTree at Mt. Vernon (using cloned pages), and trying to scam people using those fake pages. GreenTree is currently hosting a giveaway, and scammer is trying to fool people into believing they won, and then asking for financial information in order to receive the prize, which obviously they never get.

According to police, the individual below is a possible suspect involved in this morning's fatal shooting of a sheriff's deputy in Wayne County. The suspect is wanted for a carjacking and shooting in St. Peters, Missouri that followed the shooting in Illinois. Police say an individual suffered non-life threatening injuries after the vehicle they were in was carjacked by the suspect. Anyone with information on the suspect is urged to call police immediately.

𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐈𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄

Earlier today the City of Mount Vernon Inspection Department became aware of problems with a building in the 200 block of South 9th Street. The building has been deemed dangerous and dilapidated.

To ensure the safety of the public, the City of Mount Vernon is currently removing all vehicles from the area and notifying businesses in the area of concern. Barricades will be erected at 9th and Broadway, 9th and Jordan, and the alley between the old Register News Building and the Rare Steakhouse.

Foot traffic will be allowed to the businesses along the East sidewalk of 9th St. between Jordan and Broadway. Orange snow fencing will be constructed along the east sidewalk of 9th St. No vehicle traffic will be allowed to travel through the affected area until further notice.

Fall Fest that is planned for this weekend will still go on with some changes in the layout of the vendors and foot traffic to avoid this area of concern. More details to follow as an emergency meeting is being held by the festival committee at 3 p.m. today.
