Should you visit Myrtle Beach in October?
Short answer, Yes. Long answer, still yes. I’ll explain why It is my favorite time to come down.
The days are still warm. Shorts and a t-shirt are fine. Right now it is in the upper 70s, and that is beautiful beach weather. Nights drop into the 60s, so bring a light jacket or a hoodie if you get cold easy. It feels like fall and in general feels more comfortable than the heat of summer.
The beach is still worth it. Water is a little cooler than August, around the mid-70s, so a long swim depends on you. A lot of people still get in the ocean and the pool and they are fine.
Sitting on the beach or taking a nice walk is very comfortable this time of the year.
Brookgreen Gardens is great this time of the year. You can walk the whole place and not get too hot. Gardens, sculptures, and the zoo. You could easily spend all day here.
We have more Mini Golf here than anywhere else, and on a weekday in October you can have a course pretty much to yourself.
Regular golf is the same. You are not going to get too hot. If you tee off at sunrise, wear a pullover otherwise you will be fine.
Visit one of the many piers in the area. Sometimes they get a little windy over the water, you might bring a small jacket depending on the temperature.
Check out the wide variety of shops at Broadway at the Beach, Market Common, or Barefoot landing.
Everything is still open. A few places cut hours after summer, so look before you get in the car.
Grab dinner at one of the many sea food buffets. My favorite is Captain Benjamin's Calabash Seafood. Nacho Hippo, River City Cafe and Boardwalk Billy’s are another go to for my family.
Grab some ice cream at Kirk’s Ice Cream after dinner. Bring a small jacket but it’s still worth it!
Dolphin tours are still running, and October is actually one of the better months to see them. I would do an earlier afternoon trip, while it is warmest. It does get a little windy once you are out there, so bring a small jacket just in case.
As far as fall things, there’s plenty to keep your family busy.
Broadway at the Beach has The Patch through October 31, with a hay maze and kid stuff on Saturdays.
Thompson Farm in Conway runs a fall festival on the weekends through November 1, with a corn maze, hayrides, and a helicopter candy drop on Halloween.
Downtown Myrtle Beach has Fright Nights, and Ripley’s Haunted Adventure on Ocean Blvd. is open all month if somebody in the group wants a haunted house without leaving the beach.
So should you visit? Absolutely!
