Peak color, midweek quiet.

The second and third weeks of October are the best the woods look all year, and midweek is when you get Brown County at its actual pace..... no crowds on the trails, no wait for a table in Nashville.

Helmsburg Homestead sits on five acres with a swim spa, and we have Sunday through Thursday nights open right through peak color. Single nights are fine, so you can come for one or stay the week.

Rare weekend opportunity. Helmsburg Homestead just opened up for September 11–13 and honestly, weekends like this don't sit open for long.

Big weekend coming up in Brown County, Indiana — and I wanted to make sure you knew about all of it.

The 22nd Annual Indiana Wine Fair takes over The Story Inn on May 30, noon to 6pm. Sample local Indiana vintners, browse arts and crafts vendors, and enjoy live music all day long. The House Sparrows open, followed by Robert Rolfe Feddersen, with the Rich Hardesty Band headlining.

Sunday, the Nashville Indiana Farmers Market opens for its 10th season. Every Sunday through October, 11am–2pm, in the Brown County Inn parking lot at 51 State Road 46. Local farmers, fresh food, ethically raised meats and eggs, handmade goods. Dog-friendly.

And if you've never climbed the fire tower at Brown County State Park — Trail 10 leads you to W**d Patch Hill Fire Tower, the highest point in the park. Built in the 1930s and still climbable. Park entrance fee applies.

Both properties — the 1891 Schoolhouse Inn and Helmsburg Homestead — are available this weekend and put you right in the middle of all of it.
