This week marks the seventh anniversary of the unveiling of Phillip K. Smith, III’s “Lucid Stead” installation in Joshua Tree. I am SO glad I made it out there to see it in person...it was an experience I will never forget. ✨

“Lucid Stead is about tapping into the quiet and the pace of change of the desert. When you slow down and align yourself with the desert, the project begins to unfold before you. It reveals that it is about light and shadow, reflected light, projected light, and change.” -Phillip K. Smith, III

The installation is no longer in place, but Phillip’s “Lucid Stead Elements” series integrates components from the site-specific work into smaller sculptures (shown in the last few images), one of which is now in the permanent collection at Palm Springs Art Museum.
