Today we are highlighting coffee brands that align with our mission to protect and conserve nature. Many of the brands that are doing some of the best work are those that are local and connecting you directly to the roasters, the producers, and direct conservation efforts.

To that end, here are a few out there that are doing some good work:

What is Bird Friendly Coffee?

With all of the different certifications out there, it can be difficult to determine which brand is doing things right.

Today we are talking about the Smithsonian’s Bird Friendly Coffee certification.

This certification means that producers and roasters have committed to donating a portion of their profits to protect birds, along with the coffee itself being that is sustainable for the conservation of ecosystems. To that end, we talk a lot about the ocean and ocean conservation here, but it is important to protect watersheds and rivers as well. By protecting those, the waters that enter estuaries are cleaner, the communities along those watersheds are healthier, and we can support better practices by voting with our dollars.

🌿🐦 Our thoughts on birds, changing seasons, guilty pleasures, and meaningful conservation efforts. 🌼🌍

We recently stumbled upon a Reel from that perfectly encapsulated our sentiment:

“As you age, it’s ridiculous how bird-watching creeps up on you. You spend your whole life being indifferent to birds, and then one day you’re like ‘is that a Yellow Rumped Warbler?’ 😅 We can totally relate! Upon arriving in Colombia, one of our first purchases was this Field Guide to Colombian Birds by Miles McMullan.

Having established our love of birds, savoring our morning coffee amidst flocks of birds flying across continents marks the changing seasons and reminds us of the journey each coffee bean embarks on before reaching our cups.

Conservation efforts are crucial in making areas where birds are protected more resistant to climate change. Climate change poses significant threats to birds, and conservationists are tirelessly working to tackle these challenges head-on.
