Great Sunday morning guys!! THANK YOU JESUS for fishing, friends and clients who love them some Jesus. So, with a trolling motor down an a trip in the books, what was I going to do? That’s right, call a neighbor who is a friend. THANK YOU KURT!! Kurt had an extra trolling motor that he is letting use until Thomas at East 70 Pawn can get to mine and fix it if possible. Made a late night of switching motors out and an early morning of cleaning the boat. Got to the ramp, picked Josh, Daniel and Mike up and off to the trout grounds we went. Scratched us out a spot near the fleet and went to work. Bad Monkey Lures in Hot Olive was the ticket. We didn’t set the world on fire, but after talking to several people at the ramp and phone, we had a great half day of catching. Nothing under 19” and up to 24”. Keep four, pulled the hooks on four or five and missed a few. THANK YOU JESUS!! Oh, almost forgot, these boys don’t miss work for nothing as evident by one of the pics. 🤣🤣🤣

Thursday’s booking was suppose to be the Saunders family, brother Doug, his son Brandon and youngest daughter Maddie and yes I give em a discount. Maddie decided to stay home and just let the boys fish, smart move Maddie as it was a struggle. We ran to a little spot in New Bern where I had been on some trout and hadn’t seen another soul. Doug caught a drum and I g*t a nice 2 1/2/ 3 pound bass and that was it. Then decided to run down river and hit some creeks I haven’t fished lately and to my surprise, it was just not happening. I finally broke the ice with a 25” stud of a trout and we thought it was about to be on, WRONG!! Brandon did catch the biggest sir k fish EVER landed on my boat. Made a move to another area and marked fish. Hooked up again and pulled the hooks, nice looking trout. We fouled hooked a couple mullet and even had one hooked in the mouth. Brandon hooked up a big girl and she pulled the hook right at the boat, I tried to reach out and net her, but she was just out of reach of the net. A few minutes later, my trolling motor is on, but the prop isn’t working. Looked like something on the prop so I stow it, nothing. Deploy it and notice an orange cloud coming out of the motor head. Tried it again, nothing. Yep, water in the motor head, not good. Stowed it and Made a run back to New Bern, stopped in a little spot, boat is covered in rust, and caught a couple more trout without a trolling motor. What do I do for the next day’s charter??? Combining two short trips in one post. I was so trilled to have three generations on board Thursday afternoon, me, my son Blake and my grandson. My grand son caught the only fish of the trip with his first bass. I pulled the hook on a nice trout and missed a couple, but was just plumb trilled to have my boys on board. That it didn’t matter. I hate that Blake didn’t get at least one though.

Had a great time fishing with Ben Willis of coresoundcustomrods yesterday. We caught us a mess of trout, a couple bass and yes, a young cat fish. THANK YOU JESUS!!! I have Thursday, Friday and Saturday open next week if interested. Let’s go catching!!

Had Mr Jerry Cross and his son David on board yesterday in hopes of putting a smack down on the Trout. First stop, one trout and a Jerry miss. Worked our way through the fleet, I hate fishing in gaggle of boats, and got on a stretch of bank that had only three boats. Marked a knot of fish and first cast I hooked up with another decent Trout. (Jerry or David would take the rod from me after I would hook up.) 15 minutes later not another bite. Worked up another 20 yards and first cast again, hooked up and then nothing. So the theme of the day was move, cast, hook up, and repeat. Then evidently the bite stopped on the on stretch of bank we moved through because the fleet moved in. Got crowded again so moved of that bank and went hunting elsewhere. Came back down after the fleet mostly left and caught a couple more. Then as the wind went to really honking, my trolling motor died. Stupid me got distracted Sunday with golf and family and forgot to charge the batteries. Had to call Minn Kota to figure out how to manually stow her. Young man on the phone did a great job of walking me through it. We finally made on more stop and power poled down and Jerry finally stuck one that we thought was a stud, ended up being a 17 1/4” fat Drum. This thing came up waddling like a Trout. We caught a couple more trout and called it a day. Great time with great people and friends!!

A post Christmas trip yesterday with a great friend and family. Had brother Doug, his daughter Maddie and great friend Dustin on board. We caught our limit and some on a low fish activity day, told crazy stories, laughed our butts off, gave great advice to Maddie and really just had great time on the water. No pics of Maddie with a fish, she fished her butt off, got bites but just couldn’t hook up. So proud of her for her determination and effort, but even more proud of the young woman she has become. THANK YOU JESUS for family and friends that are family.
