30 Years Ago this was the “Last Draft. before I Published” @ The Louisiana Office of Public Health. 30’Years I am Still Committed to End the Epidemic of HIV in Underserved Communities. It was published May 1994 and Revised January 1996. Outreach Works are currently known as Community Health Workers

I spent many paid and unpaid hours writing, editing and finalizing this manual that was approved by administration. I trained many Outreach Workers and Public Health Staff in all 9 Regions across Louisiana and some parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and Georgia. I also presented at the Texas Outreach Conference for 6 or 7 years in Austin, Texas❤️

Most insurance plans will cover the cost of PrEP, but medication assistance is out there for those who qualify. You can find direct links in our Resources highlight. As always, you should talk to your doctor about assistance paying for PrEP or other medications.

We recently shared a few reasons why someone may choose to start PrEP as a way to prevent HIV, but did you know some people may decide PrEP is right for them solely because of where they live?

In 2022, more than 8000 people were living with HIV in the Metro New Orleans area. Of those, more than 20% were Black women. In fact, New Orleans has some of the highest rates of HIV diagnoses in the country, and that alone may be reason enough for someone to decide that PrEP may be a good option for them.

A person may decide to take PrEP for any number of reasons. We believe everyone has the right to make an informed decision about whether PrEP is right for them.

Per - starttheconversation.nola In 2022, 62% of all people living with HIV in the Metro New Orleans area were Black.
If you live in an area with high rates of HIV, you might consider PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis, as a safe and effective way to reduce your chances of getting HIV.
PrEP can be provided through an in-person visit with your doctor or through telehealth. If you're curious about whether PrEP may be a good option for you, check out the link in our bio to connect with a provider near you!

Welcome to , a social media campaign to spread awareness about PrEP and its use in preventing HIV among Black women in New Orleans. We’re the Black Women and PrEP Task Force of New Orleans and we want to share information about what PrEP is, where to get it, and how to find out if it might be right for you.
