Welcome to the "Birthplace of Jazz..."

The city of New Orleans was once known as "the Paris of America", and for good reasons.

Upon the arrival of the Americans following the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, they realized they had truly moved into a Catholic city, but it was also a city whose primary language was not English, nor were their customs & traditions.

On December 1, 1859 when the French Opera House opened its doors, it would solidify the Crescent City claim to fame. Throughout this period there was "Music and Some Highly Musical People".

Edmond DeDe was one such individual. Born a Free Man of Color to refugee parents who had fled the island of Saint-Domingue during Haitian Revolution.

Born November 20, 1827 in New Orleans, Edmond Dede would become one of the most prolific violinist, and composer, directors of his day.
