🎣 Morning Shenanigans at Lake Ameda: 🎣
Jeff Cuz and I rolled out from my boat slip right before the crack of dawn, ready for a day of fishing. 🌅 At 4 AM, as we were leaving for Campos Marina, I told Jeff, “Cuz, we’re gonna make a big run today and limit out on trout.” He was ready for an adventure, expecting a long haul.
But five minutes from the dock, I drifted the boat into a flock of diving birds—smaller seagulls, to be exact. “Let’s fish here real quick,” I said casually. Jeff looked confused. After a few casts, he turned to me and said, “Hey Cuz, I thought you said we were making a big run? We’re gonna sit here all day and play with these little fish?” 😂
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Patience, Cuz. We’re just getting the casting and reeling arm warmed up for you. You’re gonna need it.”
Now, let’s clear one thing up: I wasn’t planning on making a straight run to Lake Ameda. That stop was purely to mess with Jeff under those small birds. 😂 Where we went from there? Well, that’s a secret. 🤫
And here’s how we did it: We were working under a Versa Max popping cork with a 3’ leader and a 1/16 oz Death Grip jig head. 🎣 Campos live shrimp, the Marker 54 pink with the black tip tail glide shrimp, and the trusty Matrix Magneto got the job done. 💪 These setups brought in the action!
Yes, I like to switch up my fishing lures—I enjoy seeing which colors and brands pull in the most fish when I’m fishing for speckled trout. 🎣 But let’s be real: nothing pulls in more than Campos live shrimp. 🦐
Oh, and I don’t think I need to tell you, but yeah—that’s a two-man limit of speckled trout. 🎉 We were done by 9:30 AM. Talk about a productive morning!
The water wasn’t calm—it was perfectly moving, just enough to keep the bite going strong. The trout were hitting hard, and days like this remind me why I love what I do! 🌊☀️🐟
