Only managed to stop by Fancy Food for a few hours this year but found some great new products & companies and run into some people I hadn’t seen in a while!
My favorite bites and sips were
- the Malatown instant vermicelli noodles - I just love the numbing sensation of málà and these noodles reminded me of a brand I often bought in China
- the cream cheese and goat cheese from Bettani - a new vegan dairy brand that was born out of Stockled and Numu - be on the lookout at bagel shops etc! Their products are super creamy, high protein and just delicious - plus free of common allergens as they are h**p based
- Elmhurst‘s new fermented oat beverage called Good Day Darling - it’s got nice acidity, a bit of bready yeast taste and can easily be served in place of a sparkling wine on a hot summer day!
I will add that as a vegan, you have to be more and more careful what you taste at shows like this and, subsequently, what you buy in stores: even your humble potato chips - such as those with the cute name Vandy (which is what some friends call my husband and I - Verena-Andy = Vandy) can be fried in beef tallow!
Overall, the show always offers something new, showcases 75% Italian food, tons of olive oil and about two handfuls of really interesting, new products. I’m always most impressed by products‘ designs and booth designs.
