One of the most important things to understand about safari is where your money goes.

In Kenya, around 70% of wildlife lives outside protected areas. This is why the formation of community conservancies, such as Namunyak Conservancy in Northern Kenya, is so important. Areas that were once unprotected now play a major role in protecting wildlife habitat and migration routes.

Tourism helps fund conservation, supports anti poaching efforts, creates jobs, and provides income for local communities living alongside wildlife.

Namunyak is also a place with very low visitor numbers, creating a far more authentic, private, and uncrowded safari experience.

Your safari experience also depends on the greatness of the staff. Robert is an expert, welcoming and funny, he is from the Samburu tribe and was nice enough to share his experiences of the Samburu lifestyle. (Split into 6 parts)

Your dream trip also has a big impact on the local communities in many ways such as employment and paying for schools. The land you visit is set aside for wildlife in a world where they are being pushed off.

While a safari may not be cheap, the money you spend goes towards protecting wild spaces, and employing and training people to protect the wildlife.

When people think about going on an African safari, Malawi is not first destination that comes to mind. Known as the “Warm Heart of Africa,” because of its welcoming people

You still have the chance to see the Big Five here, along with elephants, zebra, giraffe, antelope, and a wide range of birdlife, but without the crowds, you may not even see another tourist vehicle.

Parks such as Majete Wildlife Reserve and Liwonde National Park have undergone remarkable restoration through conservation efforts led by African Parks, bringing wildlife back into areas where numbers had once dramatically declined. Visitors can even learn more about these conservation projects through behind-the-scenes experiences and conservation centers.

When it comes to safari camps, the prices are really affordable, but you still get the luxury, expert guiding, and excellent hospitality.

Lionesses have evolved remarkable survival strategies to help protect their cubs.

By mating with multiple males, both inside and outside the pride, paternity becomes less certain. This can reduce the likelihood of incoming males killing cubs during pride takeovers, as the males may believe the cubs could be their own.

I have been traveling across Africa since 2008 and started out volunteering in wildlife conservation. Over the years, I have explored everything from remote wilderness areas and community projects to some of Africa’s most incredible safari camps. These experiences gave me a deep understanding of the destinations, wildlife, conservation efforts, and the authentic experiences that make a safari truly special.

One of the things that makes King Salama Safaris different is the focus on smaller camps, private conservancies, and experiences away from mass tourism, while still including Africa’s iconic wildlife destinations.

I offer free safari consultations to help you plan the right experience based on your travel style, interests, and budget.

Naboisho Conservancy is one of my favorite places to visit in Kenya. I first started coming here around 2012 while volunteering, and it’s a place I’ve continued to return to over the years.

There is an incredible abundance of wildlife here, especially big cats. Lions are seen in strong numbers, along with cheetahs and leopards, and with limited vehicle numbers, sightings often feel far more authentic.

What makes Naboisho especially unique is that it is a community conservancy owned by local Maasai families. Tourism here directly supports conservation, local livelihoods, schools, and community projects while helping protect wildlife habitat outside the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

You can also experience activities not allowed in many national parks, including walking safaris, night drives, and off-road driving for closer but respectful wildlife sightings.

I visited some of Tanzania’s most iconic safari destinations in November, including the Serengeti, Tarangire National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater, and this was my experience.

There were fewer vehicles at sightings, fewer guests in camp, and even more attention from staff. Wildlife viewing was still excellent, and many of the top camps had better availability and more favorable rates.

For travelers looking for a more seamless safari experience without peak season crowds, November makes a lot of sense.

Tanzania remains one of Africa’s best safari destinations year-round, but timing your trip well can completely shape the experience.

If you are considering a safari and want help choosing the right season, camps, and itinerary, feel free to get in touch.

Impalas are often referred to as the “McDonald’s of the bush,” largely because they are everywhere on the menu.

Their numbers are high, which makes them a key prey species, and that role keeps entire ecosystems moving. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, and wild dogs all rely on them.

What people often miss is their elegance. Impala are fast, alert, and remarkably agile, able to leap high and change direction in an instant.

One of the most valuable parts of safari is often overlooked.

It’s not just about wildlife, it’s about the people who live alongside it.

Listening to our Samburu guide from Sarara Camp speak about his life and experiences gives a deeper understanding of how others live.

Coexisting with wildlife is not something they visit, it is part of their everyday life.

These are the kinds of experiences that stay with you long after the trip ends.
