Poseidon Expeditions A leader in expedition cruising to Antarctica and the Arctic. Come explore the polar world with us!
(4)

Poseidon Expeditions is one of the leading providers of polar expeditions in the cruise industry. Founded in 1999, the company is a recognized leader in icebreaker cruises to the North Pole, the Arctic and Antarctica. With the 116-passenger Sea Spirit, Poseidon expanded its offerings to include deluxe expedition cruises to Antarctica, and to the Arctic destinations of Svalbard, Greenland, Franz Jo

sef Land and Iceland. With representations and offices in the UK, US, Germany, Cyprus and China, the company markets it travel programs worldwide. As a member in good standing of both the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) and the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO), our company pledges its commitment to the further development of Arctic and Antarctic conservation and support of related scientific research. We actively encourage participation in our expeditions by naturalists and scientists engaged in such research, offering a platform from which they can pursue their important work as well as a forum where they can voice their unique understanding of these fragile and remote ecosystems. Preservation of the Arctic and Antarctic habitats and the Polar Ice Cap are environmental imperatives and the responsibility of all, including tourism operators and their guests. We at Poseidon Expeditions are honored to be a part of this, and to help our passengers understand the importance of preserving Polar Regions for future generations.

Our expeditions to the polar regions are an immersive experience where you can literally touch, smell, and hear the natural wonders around you. Kayaking is one of the best ways to do it.

📌What to know before you go:

🔹Book this activity in advance, as we form a small group on each cruise for a better experience. We allow up to 16 kayakers on Antarctic cruises and 8 on Arctic cruises.
🔹You don’t have to be a world-class kayaker to join our group, but it’s important to have basic kayaking and paddling experience.
🔹It is an optional activity which is not included in the cruise price. The fee starts from 795 USD.
🔹Kayaking is offered on most of our cruises to Antarctica and the Arctic with few exceptions.
🔹You will have several kayaking sessions during the expedition (the number depends on the weather conditions).

There is no need to fear the sea!

We deploy our kayakers in protected bays where the waters are calm. Water temperatures are usually around 0°C (32°F) and your dry suit helps protect you from getting wet.

📍Want to join our kayaking club? You can do it this summer on our Arctic cruises to Svalbard. Selected expeditions are now available at a special rate — 25% off all cabin categories.

The legendary Drake Passage has inspired countless myths among polar travelers. During the Antarctic season, we cross it dozens of times — but what is it really like out there?

😮 Myth 1
The Drake Passage is always terrifying.

👌Reality
The Drake has two moods — travelers even joke about them: the “Drake Shake” and the “Drake Lake.” Some crossings are rough, others are surprisingly calm.

😮 Myth 2
Everyone gets seasick.

👌Reality
Many travelers don’t experience seasickness at all, especially on modern expedition ships equipped with stabilizers. For instance, our Sea Spirit has Rolls Royce stabilizers, which make the journey more comfortable and smooth. And for those who do feel it, simple preparation usually helps a lot: take remedies in advance, stay hydrated, and choose lighter meals. A fan fact - ginger helps from seasickness too!

😮 Myth 3
You’ll be stuck in your cabin for two days.

👌Reality
The crossing is part of the expedition itself. Guests attend lectures from polar experts, watch seabirds like albatrosses soaring beside the ship, enjoy reading thematic literature in our library, and start spotting the first signs of Antarctica long before arrival.

Some places in Antarctica look completely unreal… and today, we’re showing you some of the most incredible ones!

📍Lemaire Channel
A narrow, glacier-lined passage often called “Kodak Gap”. Sheer peaks rise on both sides while icebergs drift through water. Conditions permitting, it’s one of the most visually striking Antarctic waters.

📍Penguin Island
A small volcanic island dominated by large chinstrap penguin colonies. The land is ash-covered and has a peculiar reddish colour. There’re a few elevated viewpoints over the surrounding ocean - with constant movement, sound, and activity from thousands of birds.

📍Paradise Bay
Known for its calm waters and near-perfect reflections. Surrounded by glaciers and floating ice, it’s one of the best locations for kayaking and quiet observation. Whales can be seen feeding in the bay.

📍Deception Island
A flooded volcanic caldera (crater) with black sand beaches and active geothermal areas. Baily Head is a rocky headland exposed on the south east coast of Deception Island home to over 100 000 breeding pairs of chinstrap penguins!

📍Port Lockroy
A historic British base on Goudier Island, now a museum and the southernmost public post office. Surrounded by gentoo penguins, it combines human history with wildlife encounters - one of the few places where you can step inside Antarctica’s past.

On a polar cruise, every moment is shaped by ice and weather. You never know where you’ll go next—and that’s what makes it truly breathtaking. Embrace the adventure and be ready for whatever awaits you.

Why Svalbard is worth visiting 🤩

During the cruise you are going to:

🔎explore the world of glaciers
🔎witness mesmerising wildlife of the Arctic (you might even see polar bears if lucky)
🔎adore picturesque fjords
🔎reach Polar Ice Edge and land right on the ice (if the weather allows)

How do we reach Svalbard? 🗺️

The only way to access the “cold coast” properly is by expedition cruise. There are certain restrictions in the area regarding different activities, so a small vessel, like Sea Spirit, provides quite a few benefits:

👍flexible routes and enough time to explore
👍daily Zodiac landings for everyone
👍the freedom to follow wildlife and get to secluded areas
👍maximum 100 passengers on board, so everyone can land without rotation

And what about the weather? ❄️

Cruises operate during summer months - here’s why:

🌤️Pleasant temperature - 3–8°C
🌤️24-hour daylight gives maximum exploration time
🌤️Sea ice in the High Arctic is receding
🌤️You may witness calving glaciers

🔥Sounds cool? But wait for the coolest part! You still have 2 more days to book the following cruises with a special discount - 25% off all cabin categories:

📍West Svalbard & Polar Ice Edge
June 7-17, 2026
June 16-25, 2026
July 26-Aug 3, 2026

📍Svalbard & Polar Ice Edge
June 24-July 5, 2026
