On the Great Gatsby Boat Tour in Plandome Manor (East Egg) is this magnificent house that was standing when Scott Fitzgerald lived in Great Neck. It was originally built in 1910 by William Payne Whitney, businessman and philanthropist, as a gift to his son, John Hay “Jock” Whitney, to serve as a dock and hangar for his seaplane. Jock could sail his yacht to Wall Street, where he pioneered venture capitalism before becoming an ambassador.
