Some people step away from life to avoid it. But creating distance isn't always just an escape.

Sometimes distance creates clarity.

When you step outside your routines and the pressures of modern life, things begin to look different. Problems that once felt enormous become easier to understand. Things that truly matter become easier to recognize.

Perspective doesn’t usually appear when we push harder inside the same type of environment, with your same habits.

You can't escape your life permanently. The problems are still there when you get back.

But with the right intention and environment, you can reflect, and find a better way forward.

People often assume insight comes from thinking harder. From analyzing problems more deeply, or trying to force clarity through effort.

But insight often appears in a different way. It emerges when the mind finally has room to breathe.

Nature creates the kind of environment where that can happen.

As the constant stimulation of modern life fades, the nervous system begins to settle. Thoughts that once felt scattered find clarity. Decisions that once felt overwhelming turn into no brainers.

Because you found the space to allow what needs to fall away, to do so.

There are certain questions people hold out on answering for years.

Am I living the life I actually want? What truly matters to me? What would I change if I were being completely honest with and true to myself?

It's tough to create the space you need to look inward at that level. So most people stay busy so they don’t have to answer them.

Work fills up the schedule, responsibilities grow, and life becomes structured around keeping up the momentum, or at least not letting everything fall apart.

And the questions fade into the background. Not because they’ve been answered. Because there hasn’t been space to sit with them.

Eventually something shifts, and the questions return.

Maybe it's time to get into a space where you can invite them.

Each summer we guide a small number of multi-day nature and mushroom journeys in Oregon. They’re designed for people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from what matters most.

These journeys create space for reflection, insight, and meaningful conversation.

Most people see them as a chance to step away from the chaos of modern life and reconnect with something deeper.

For many who attend, the experience becomes a touchstone moment they return to for years.

If you’re curious whether something like this might be right for you, I offer free exploration calls, no pressure.

In fact, these journeys aren’t for everyone.

But they could be exactly what you need.

Our journeys are intentionally kept small. Not because more people wouldn’t want to join, but because the depth of the container matters more than numbers.

When groups are small, people open up easier. Conversations become deep. Each person has the space to explore their experience without feeling rushed or overlooked.

Over time, something shifts. It goes from a group attending the same event, to a shared journey.

That sense of deep connection often becomes one of the most meaningful parts of the experience.

We try to help continue those connections past the Journey. But whether they last or not, even having people see you like that, and you sharing yourself in that way, makes an impact on your conscious experience.

It opens a new level in yourself.

A powerful Journey shows you a lot of important insights, often more than people remember.

But insight alone won't change your life. The real work happens afterward.

Integration is the process of weaving new understanding into everyday choices. Seeing relationships in new ways, deciding what to follow through with, and where you place your attention.

Without integration, powerful experiences can fade into distant memories.

But when people take the time to sit with, and apply what they saw, those insights begin shaping their life in meaningful ways.

That’s where the real transformation happens.

Modern life is very good at offering comfort, at least for a time. Convenience, entertainment, and endless distraction.

But comfort alone rarely satisfies the deeper stirrings of being human.

After they get used to comfort, people eventually realize that what they really crave isn't more ease. It’s meaning. The sense that what they’re doing each day actually matters.

When people reconnect with that sense of meaning, something shifts.

Energy returns, and life begins to feel alive again.

Not because things become easy.

But because things become worthwhile.

Something feels different after spending real time immersed in nature.

It’s not just the scenery, though flooding your system with peaceful beauty doesn't hurt anyone.

But it's something else that strikes me. It’s the rhythm.

In the natural world, things move at a pace very different from modern life. There's no rush. Nothing demands your constant attention.

When we spend enough time in that environment, we begin to align with those rhythms.

Breathing slows, attention turns to perspective, and the tension people carry in their minds begins to soften.

Slowly, people begin to feel more like themselves again.

And it feels fantastic!

When people talk about burnout, they usually assume it’s caused by working too much.

But often it’s something deeper. A loss of meaning, or a sense that the things we’re doing every day don’t really align with what matters most. No productivity hack fixes that.

The issue isn’t time management. It’s direction.

Sometimes the most important question a person can ask is simple: What kind of life am I living?

There’s rarely a perfect time to ask that question. Life always seems busy enough to postpone it.

But for many people, the realization eventually arrives in unexpected ways. They’ve been putting off that reflection for years.

It's time to create intentional space to reflect.

"Give me your ugly"

I worked with someone who had a powerful moment during their mushroom journey.

They described a vision of swimming deep underwater, toward a bunch of roots that also looked like blood vessels.

They kept swimming deeper.

Then they heard a voice say something they'll probably never forget.

“Give me your ugly.”

The next day, during integration, they paddled out into a quiet lake surrounded by forest.

They returned to the vision, and swam. Deeper and deeper.

And gave it their ugly.

When they returned to shore, something had shifted.

A year later they told me that moment had “opened a channel” inside them.

Whenever life becomes heavy, they return to that place in their mind. They swim down again, and give it their ugly.

The roots hold it all.
