Sail Lazydog is out of the charter business. Life's too short for working.

Greetings crew!

Since last time, I've installed the shaft seal, which for those who don't know, goes around the prop shaft and the hull shaft tube. It's function is to allow the prop shaft to spin while keeping water out of the boat. Sort of important right?

Today my first mate and I pressed the cutlass bearing into the prop strut. It's job is to support the shaft and the propeller. The job went very smooth and Denise was great turning the big wrench of the press. She looked like Rosie the riveter.
This weekend I hope to finish installing the shaft to the transmission. Next job will be to align the motor/ transmission with the shaft. A time consuming but very important task.

So that's it for now. In glad to be moving forward!

'Till next time.

Moving forward!
Major hurdle resolved. Today we dropped the rudder completely and put the prop shaft in. Yay!
Now I can continue with the boat work for the next two months and then cover her for the winter.
I'll be ready to launch in the spring!
Maybe the light I see at the end of the tunnel is NOT the locomotive coming towards me.

For those who've been waiting for the next installment of "Ah, the Joys of Sailing", now I'll have more time for the infrequent posts.

Thank you all for your kind words and hopes for speedy return to tasting the salty water and feeling it under my deck.

I hate to say it but I'm off the water this year. Severe back pain means the basically homebound. Hopefully I'll be back next season.

Dinner and a bit of rum makes things better.

AARRRGGHHHH!!
There really is something wrong with me. Why do I do it to myself. Aren't there better ways to frustrate myself?
Attempted to install new prop shaft today. 320.org guys say you can get the shaft in without dropping the rudder. No you can't. We were all ready today. Now the boat needs a lift so the work can proceed. W T F
GRrrrrrrrr.

Ah, the joys of Yachting

#1
Last year most of you know I launched Lazydog II. Great boat but I only got to sail her a few times. I never had a chance to become intimate with her, learning her habits and idiosyncrasies due to old man knees. Over the winter I got a new knee and I was ready for the joy of a new yachting season.

One joy is getting ready to launch. The anticipation of joyfully being on the water out weighs the work to get ready, and crew are ready to help. Thanks mates, Arthur, Ira and Steve. I couldn't have done it without some help because right after my new knee, my back started in. As crewman Ira said, "it's like bringing your car in for a new clutch only to find after your u- joints and wheel bearings are shot." But we persevered.

Last Monday launching was scheduled. We're at the boatyard early to start up the motor. Oh joy! She started right up. Wonderful!
Ok, let's check the transmission. Yikes, the sound was enough to wake up Davey Jones, it was horrible. Remember, "it's always something".

Now, what's the problem? Turns out the old bronze shaft from the transmission to the propeller was bent and needed to be replaced. Ah, the joy that it's not worse.

So the launching was cancelled and I went home with a little joy and a hurting back. Hence my post of last week.

Stay tuned for #2.
