Effective immediately, please be aware of the following guidelines concerning the import of electronic devices for travelers to Mexico, which have been in effect for some time but are being enforced recently.

Each traveler is permitted to bring ONE portable computing device (e.g., laptop, notebook, or iPad) without incurring an import fee.

If passengers bring multiple devices, such as a laptop and an iPad, each will be treated as a separate item, which may result in additional fees.

Allowed Items:
1 laptop or similar portable computing device (e.g., iPad)

Limited Items:
Up to 3 cell phones
1 GPS
2 cameras
1 pair of binoculars
4 fishing poles

Exceeding these limits may result in customs duties starting at 19% of the item's estimated value, with some cases reporting fees as high as 200%. To avoid these potential charges, please adhere to these guidelines.

There are only three "rules" about when to buy a travel insurance plan:

After your first trip payment is made. If you want to purchase a comprehensive plan to cover trip cancellation, we recommend you do it after making at least one payment towards your trip, but some plans require you to have already put money down. You will want to have a good grasp of your total expected trip cost. This will allow you to get the most accurate quote for the right travel insurance plan.

As close to that first payment as possible. If you need coverage for a pre-existing medical condition or are interested in optional Cancel for Any Reason coverage, you should be aware that both of these have time-sensitive eligibility requirements tied to your initial trip payment (among other requirements). In other words, once you’ve paid for a part of the trip (whether it’s airfare, accommodations or a down payment for a cruise) you have a limited amount of time to buy a plan to access these benefits.

Prior to when the plan is needed. You must purchase travel insurance coverage before it is needed. Some travel medical plans are available for purchase after you have departed, but comprehensive plans that include medical coverage must be purchased before departing. However, you can’t buy any medical coverage once you recognize a need for medical attention. The same applies to all travel insurance coverage. Once you recognize the need, it is too late to protect your trip.

Whether or not you are checking a bag on the plane, your carry-on
should contain your essentials.

Here are tips for packing a carry-on for upcoming air travel:

Use soft sided carry-on to fit in the sizer, overhead bin or under the seat in front.

Do not lie hard carry-on flat, stand it up on edge so more can fit in the overhead compartment.

Pack several outfits, medications, jewellery.

Pack a photo of your passport & document containing your emergency contact info & passport number, citizenship, emergency contacts info, financial institutions & consular services toll-free numbers, emergency medical info including company name, policy number, and toll-free number.

Use luggage tags.

Don't use black luggage. It's hard to identify – use extra luggage tags, luggage cover or luggage strap(s) to identify it.

Take photos of your luggage and its inside contents in case you need to file a claim.

Throw your business card inside as an identifier.

Pack outfits for events in carry-on so you don’t lose them and put a suit in a clear plastic laundry bag so it doesn’t get wrinkled on the flight.

Cross pack if travelling with others – take half of someone else’s clothes and vice versa, and pack outfits.

You can never be too prepared. Cover yourself with flight insurance commonly known as trip cancellation insurance to protect yourself from unexpected events that could happen before and during your trip.

Protect checked bags with
baggage insurance or protect several losses with all-inclusive insurance.

What is Backpacker Travel Insurance?

Backpacker travel insurance coverage is designed for long, worldwide trips. It's commonly referred to as extended trip insurance, long-term or long-stay travel insurance. Unlike annual travel insurance, backpacker travel insurance allows you to return home and hit the road again in an 18-24 month period.

The longer you travel, the higher the chances that something can go wrong; therefore, travelling without backpacker insurance is risky, especially if you face a medical emergency. Plus, some countries only allow you to enter if you have a travel insurance policy covering emergency medical. Backpacker insurance is comprehensive and includes numerous other benefits.

Credit Card Travel Insurance vs. Travel Insurance

Bottom line — your credit card may offer some protection. However, it will not provide the same amount of coverage available from traditional travel insurance.

A comprehensive travel insurance plan can cover the entire trip cost in addition to providing key benefits including emergency medical coverage, emergency medical evacuation, trip interruption, trip delay, baggage coverage, and 24/7 emergency assistance. Typically, these plans will run 4-8 percent of a total trip cost.

Depending on the destination you are travelling to, hurricane season typically runs from January through November.

January through March
It's best to avoid travelling to the South Pacific because it is cyclone season.

April through September
May into fall is best to avoid travel to the Eastern and Western Pacific due to hurricanes and typhoons.

June through September is best to avoid travel to the Atlantic and Caribbean because of hurricanes, and the Indian Ocean when cyclones strike.

November through April
Its best to avoid a trip to Eastern Africa due to typhoon season and avoid the month of December also because that's when monsoons hit.

If you plan to travel to a destination during storms, hurricanes, or other natural disasters, consider purchasing flight/trip cancellation insurance and look at the policy to see what events are covered.
