TIMES SQUARE

Universalmente conosciuta come “The Crossroads of the World”, questa famosa piazza era in origine chiamata Longacre Square, dal nome di una via di Londra conosciuta per la presenza di costruttori di carrozze e fu rinominata il 13 aprile 1904, su richiesta del finanziere e politico August Belmont.

MORGAN LIBRARY & MUSEUM

The Morgan Library & Museum ospita la collezione privata del banchiere John Pierpont Morgan ed è conservato in un edificio che fu progettato dall’studio di architetti McKim, Mead and White. All’interno c'è la magnifica sala della biblioteca che ha pareti alte oltre nove metri rivestite con tre livelli di librerie in bronzo e noce intarsiato.

EMPIRE STATE BUILDING

L'Empire State Building è stato fino agli anni '70 il grattacielo più alto del mondo. È alto 381 metri per 102 piani (in realtà i piani reali sono 86, al 102° piano si trova solo l'osservatorio) ma considerando la punta del pennone si raggiungono i 443 metri.

MORRIS-JUMEL MANSION

Posizionata su uno dei punti più alti di Manhattan con una vista su New Jersey, Connecticut e sul porto di New York, questa residenza fu costruita nel 1765 come villa estiva seguendo lo stile dell’architettura palladiana, dal colonnello inglese Roger Morris e sua moglie Mary Philipse.

THE HIGH LINE

Questa vecchia linea ferrovia merci sopraelevata faceva parte della West Side Line, fu aperta nel 1934 e rimase operativa fino al 1980. La ferrovia fu quindi abbandonata e alla fine degli anni ’90 rischiò di essere abbattuta. Ma nel 1999 un gruppo di residenti fondarono i Friends of the High Line con l’obiettivo di conservare e trasformare la linea in un parco urbano.
