Most desks have a coffee and a to do list.

Mine has Emma M. Lion, a Paris novel or two, and a guide to literary places I have half memorized.

This is where Novel Travels really starts. Not with an itinerary, but with a chair, good light, and a story I cannot stop thinking about.

Novel Travels is in The New York Times today.

The piece is about literary travel finding its moment, and one of our readers, Renee, said it better than I ever could. She is 84, she has seen enough old buildings, and what she wants now is to walk into the books she loves. She came with us to New York. England is next.

That is the whole reason this company exists.

Years ago I stood on a street in St. Petersburg where The Bronze Horseman is set, thinking I could not be the only one who wanted this. It took me a long time to build the answer, but here it is.

And it is not only the small group tours in the article. If there is a book, a whole shelf of books, or a literary place you have always wanted to see, I can build a private trip around it, entirely your own and at your own pace.

Every business has an origin. Mine was a book I loved for years before I knew what it would become.

The Bronze Horseman. I read it long before I ever got to go. Then travel took me to St. Petersburg, and standing in the city I’d only read about, I knew I wasn’t the only reader who wanted to step off the page and into the place.

I built Novel Travels for the woman who reads like that. Fully, all the way in, already half-packed by the final chapter.
