This shot was published as a spread in magazine, as part of an article back in 2016 (edition 61, page 88-99) on what to do on the island, written and photographed by me. Columbus Travel magazine just released their 100th edition! Cheers to that 🎉🥂! I'm proud to be one of the magazine's ambassadors!

Okay, just one more picture of Mont Saint-Michel, to end our France series! Because thát was really the absolute highlight of our short roadtrip. It was really a surprising trip, relatively close to our hometown. Thanks for all the kind comments guys!

Oké, nog één foto dan van Mont Saint-Michel, om de Frankrijk-serie af te sluiten! Omdat dát toch echt het absolute hoogtepunt was van onze korte roadtrip. Het was echt een verrassende reis, relatief dicht bij huis en haard. Thanks voor de leuke reacties!

As frequent travellers, we cannot always afford exquisite dishes. It is fair to say that during our worldtrip, we have had to resort to fastfoodchains and foodplazas. Moreover, cheap meals aren't bad by definition; we enjoyed the most fantastic streetfood in Bangkok (Thailand) and Georgetown (Malaysia) for less than 1 Euro.

Still, we'd like to highlight a restaurant. During the 'bonus' of our short roadtrip through France, an unexpected stay at the port of Le Tréport, we ended up in 'Papa Poule'; a modern and well-equipped little restaurant, with a young chef in charge. Here you can get pretty classic but delicious fish, meat and vegetarian dishes for a very affordable price. Fish, shellfish and crustaceans are extremely fresh, as you can expect in a coastal town. For a three course menu we paid 17,50 euros which was more than worth it. So if you ever go to Le Tréport, write down this place!

Als frequente reizigers kunnen we ons niet altijd exquise gerechten permitteren. De eerlijkheid gebiedt ons te zeggen dat we tijdens onze wereldreis geregeld onze toevlucht zochten tot fastfoodketens en foodplaza's. Overigens is het zeker niet zo dat goedkope maaltijden per definitie slecht zijn; we aten de meest fantastische streetfood in Bangkok (Thailand) en Georgetown (Maleisië) voor minder dan 1 euro.

Toch willen we graag een keertje een restaurant in het zonnetje zetten. Tijdens de 'bonus' van onze korte roadtrip door Frankrijk, een onverwachts verblijf in kustplaatsje Le Tréport, belandden we in het nieuwe restaurant 'Papa Poule'. Een modern en gezellig ingerichte zaak, met een jonge chef-kok aan het roer. Hier kun je vrij klassieke, maar heerlijke vis- vlees- en vegetarische gerechten krijgen voor een heel betaalbare prijs. Vis, schelp- en schaaldieren zijn uiterst vers, zoals je mag verwachten in een kustplaats. Voor een driegangenmenu betaalden we 17,50 euro. Dat was het méér dan waard. Dus ben je eens in Le Tréport, noteer deze plek!

After visiting the impressive Mont Saint-Michel (see previous post), it was unfortunately time to drive homeward. However, we were fortunate to be able to stay away one day longer, so we made an unexpected stopover and overnighted in coastal town Le Tréport. The cliffs next to this village are less impressive that the formations of Étretat, but they are a beautiful backdrop though. A small cultural hiking trail has been mapped out and there are some excellent restaurants, more about that later on. The best thing about Le Tréport however, is that you have a free (!! where do you find this nowadays?!) cable car that brings you to the top of the cliffs, from where you have a fantastic view over the ocean, the cliffs and the village. What a nice encore from our roadtrip this was!

Na een bezoek aan het imposante Mont Saint-Michel (zie vorige post) was het helaas tijd om huiswaarts te rijden. We waren echter zo fortuinlijk om onverwachts een dag langer weg te kunnen blijven, dus maakten we een onvoorziene tussenstop en overnachting in kustplaats Le Tréport. De kliffen waarbij dit dorp gelegen is zijn weliswaar minder indrukwekkend dat de formaties van Étretat, maar vormen alsnog een mooi decor voor het havenstadje. Er is een kleine culturele wandelroute uitgestippeld en er zijn uitstekende restaurants te vinden, waarover later meer. Het leukste aan Le Tréport is echter dat je hier een gratis (!! waar vind je het nog?!) kabelbaan hebt die je tot bovenaan de kliffen brengt, vanwaar je een fantastisch uitzicht hebt over de oceaan, de kliffen en het dorp. Wat een leuke toegift van onze roadtrip was dit!

Mont Saint-Michel is one of France's most iconic places of interest. The island commune, about one kilometre from the coast and characterized by the silhouette of an abbey, is unique and has been on the bucketlist since the childhood of Be Good To Travel-photographer Hans Moerkens. The perfect 'piéce de résistance' of our short roadtrip through France! Although most of you have probably seen a picture of this place, not everyone will realize that within the walls there are also quite a few shops, restaurants and hotels. Even a few dozen of people live here permanently! At low tide, the settlement is surrounded by sand, or quicksand. At high tide, a beautiful reflection draws off in the water. Although much visited, and not exactly off the beaten track, our visit to Mont Saint-Michel was unforgettable! What a fairytale destination this is! The 10 euro entrance fee for the abbey is certainly worth the money. From here you have magnificant views of the surroundings. But if you don't want to spend anything, you can also explore the island for free. It pays to go back at sunset (see our postcard a few posts back).

Mont Saint-Michel is één van Frankrijk's meest iconische bezienswaardigheden. Dit kleine eiland, gelegen in een waddengebied en gekenmerkt door het silhouet van een bovenop gelegen abdij, is uniek in zijn soort en stond al sinds de kinderjaren van Be Good To Travel-fotograaf Hans Moerkens op zijn bucketlist. De perfecte pièce de résistance van onze roadtrip door het noorden van Frankrijk! Hoewel de meesten van jullie vast ooit wel een foto hebben gezien van deze plek, zal niet iedereen zich realiseren dat zich binnen de muren ook aardig wat winkeltjes, restaurants en hotels bevinden. Er wonen zelfs enkele tientallen mensen permanent! Bij eb wordt de nederzetting omringd door zand, soms drijfzand. Bij vloed tekent zich een prachtige weerspiegeling af in het water. Hoewel drukbezocht, en niet bepaald van de gebaande paden te noemen, was ons bezoek aan Mont Saint-Michel onvergetelijk! Wat een sprookjesachtige bestemming is dit! De 10 euro entreegeld voor de abdij is het geld overigens zeker waard. Vanaf hier heb je prachtige vergezichten over het waddengebied, evenals een indrukwekkende inkijk in het kloosterleven. Maar wil je niets uitgeven, kun je ook gewoon gratis het eiland verkennen. Het loont ook om bij zonsondergang terug te gaan (zie de postcard enkele posts terug).

Our roadtrip through the North of France brought us, after the impressive cliffs of Étretat, to the picturesque old harbor town Honfleur. And what a pleasant surprise this charming town was! Those who love seafood can enjoy great dishes here in one of the many restaurants. The characteristic buildings along the harbor and in the rest of the town centre, provide a unique experience when walking the streets. Honfleur isn't very big though, so you don't have to spend days. We stayed in a centrally located chambre d'hôte, the French equivalent of a B&B. In the property of a painter, we were warmly welcomed, stayed in a comfortable room, and had an excellent breakfast. Peintures honfleuraises is recommendable! :-)

Onze roadtrip door het noorden van Frankrijk bracht ons na de indrukwekkende kliffen van Étretat naar het schilderachtige havenstadje Honfleur. Wat een aangename verrassing bleek dat! Zij die van seafood houden kunnen hier hun hart ophalen in één van de vele restaurants. De karakteristieke panden langs de haven, maar ook in de rest van het centrum, zorgen voor een unieke beleving wanneer je door de straten loopt. Groot is het echter niet, dus je hoeft er geen dagen voor uit te trekken. Wij verbleven in een centraal gelegen chambre d'hôte, het Franse equivalent van een B&B. Thuis bij een kunstenares werden we warm onthaald, sliepen we in een comfortabele kamer en werden we van een uitstekend ontbijt voorzien. Peintures Honfleuraises is een aanrader! :-)

It's only a two hours drive from Amiens (see our previous post) to the spectacular coastline of Étretat. Here you will find bizarre formations of limestone cliffs, which have become quite Insta-famous by pictures of countless photographers and bloggers. The town itself lies directly on the beach near the cliffs. You will find shops and several restaurants (mainly focused on tourists). Nice for a walk along the streets, but the cliffs are the unsurpassed eyecatcher. Make sure to take the time to look up at both ends of the beach for a view, because it is mesmerizingly beautiful. Even on a cloudy and rainy day.

Vanuit Amiens (zie onze vorige post) rijd je in een uurtje of twee naar de spectaculaire kustlijn bij Étretat. Hier vind je kalkstenen kliffen in bizarre formaties, die door foto's van ontelbare fotograferen behoorlijk Insta-famous zijn geworden. Het dorpje zelf ligt direct aan het strand bij de rotskust. Je vindt er winkels en een behoorlijk aantal (veelal op toeristen gerichte) restaurants. Leuk om doorheen te wandelen, maar de kliffen zijn de onovertroffen blikvanger. Neem de tijd om het aan beide uiteinden van het strand hogerop te zoeken voor een uitzicht, want het is betoverend mooi. Zelfs op een regenachtige dag.

The first stopover we make during our roadtrip through the North of France is Amiens; a city that is pretty famous for its cathedral. Notre-Dame is allegedly the largest gothic cathedral in Europe and one of the most important cathedrals in France. Needless to say this structure is protected by UNESCO. In particular the stained glass windows are impressive! Moreover, Amiens surprised us by the atmosphere, the pretty streets, the cosy terraces and the almost Mediterranean-style houses along the water. De eerste tussenstop die we maken tijdens onze roadtrip door het noorden van Frankrijk is Amiens, een stad die voornamelijk bekend staat om de kathedraal. De Notre-Dame is naar verluidt de grootste gotische kathedraal van Europa en bovendien één van de belangrijkste kathedralen van Frankrijk. Uiteraard wordt het bouwwerk beschermd door UNESCO. Met name de glas-in-loodramen zijn indrukwekkend! Maar Amiens weet ons vooral te verbazen door de leuke sfeer, de mooiste straatjes, de gezellige terrassen en de bijna Mediterraans aandoende panden langs het water. We've been quite inactive here on Facebook lately, but that doesn't mean we stopped exploring! Quite the reverse. Recently, Be Good To Travel-photographer Hans Moerkens went to Jamaica to make an article for ColumbusMagazine, we tested a new hotel in our own city and we made a roadtrip through the north of France. Furthermore, some nice trips are planned for the next few months, so you'll hear from us again!

Let's start with our trip through France, which we made this month! You'll be surprised how many cool places there are relatively close to The Netherlands! In the next few days, we'll take you on a trip again! Have you ever been to France? And if so, what is your most beautiful memory in this country? Comment below!

Dat we hier op Facebook een tijdje afwezig zijn geweest, betekent niet dat we stil hebben gezeten! Allesbehalve zelfs. In de afgelopen maanden maakte Be Good To Travel-fotograaf Hans Moerkens voor ColumbusMagazine een reportage in Jamaica, we testten een nieuw hotel in onze eigen stad en we maakten een roadtrip door het noorden van Frankrijk. Ook voor de komende maanden staan leuke trips gepland, dus je zult weer wat vaker van ons horen!

We beginnen met onze autotrip door Frankrijk, die we deze maand maakten! Het zal je verbazen hoeveel toffe plekken er relatief dicht bij huis te vinden zijn! Our stay at the blissfully Maldives was the perfect end to our great time in Asia. Yet it was not our last destination! After a long flight to Moscow, we missed our connecting flight unfortunately, which forced us to spend the night in Russia. Not the most comfortable night by the way, on the cold floor of the airport. Anyway, after a year like this, we cannot complain. The next morning we took a flight to... Paris! Over the years, this has always been our favorite city and we wanted to examine whether it still was, now that we had visited so many other cool cities. You can read it in our upcoming posts!

Een bezoek aan de paradijselijke Malediven was de perfecte afsluiting van onze geweldige tijd in Azië. Toch was het niet onze allerlaatste bestemming! Na een lange vlucht naar Moskou misten we onze aansluitende vlucht, waardoor we noodgedwongen een nacht in Rusland doorbrachten. Niet de meest comfortabele nacht overigens, zo op de koude vloer van de luchthaven. Maar goed, na zo'n jaar mogen we niet klagen. De volgende ochtend vlogen we door naar... Parijs! Al sinds jaar en dag is dit onze lievelingsstad en we wilden graag onderzoeken of dat nog altijd zo was, nu we zoveel andere toffe steden bezocht hadden. Je leest het in aankomende posts!

When you think of The Maldives, this photo is probably what you have in mind! Clearblue water and luxurious waterbungalows. Who doesn't want to be here?? You might think it's way too expensive for you to have this experience. We have news for you: It is possible!

From our own accommodation, Ocean Retreat and Spa, we made a day trip to a resort island. For $70 p.p. entrance fee, you can spend all day at Adaaran Club Rannalhi, a beautiful accommodation with every modern convenience. This is, of course, a considerable price, but for this money you can use the lunch buffet and the bar. Unlimited alcoholic beverages are included. It's not really cheap, but you dó have a great day and the Maldivian experience you've always wanted! For us it was the perfect last day in Asia from our worldtrip! We had an amazing day! And think about it, does it get any more heavenly than this?!

Wanneer je aan de Malediven denkt, is deze foto waarschijnlijk wat je voor je ziet! Kraakhelder water en luxe waterbungalows. Wie wil daar nu niét rondlopen? Wellicht denk je dat dat voor jou onbetaalbaar is. Wij hebben nieuws voor je: Het kan!

Vanaf onze eigen accommodatie, Ocean Retreat and Spa, maakten we een dagtour naar een resort-eiland. Voor 70 dollar p.p. entreegeld mag je de hele dag vertoeven bij Adaaran Club Rannalhi, een mooie accommodatie van alle gemakken voorzien. Dit is natuurlijk alsnog een aanzienlijke prijs, maar voor dit geld mag je wel onbeperkt gebruik maken van het lunchbuffet én van de bar. Alcoholische dranken zijn hierbij ook inbegrepen. Écht goedkoop is het dus niet, maar dan heb je wél een toffe dag én de Malediven-ervaring die je altijd hebt gewild! Voor ons was het de perfecte laatste dag in Azië van onze wereldreis! We hebben hier een topdag gehad! En zeg zelf, méér paradijselijk dan dit wordt het niet snel!
