Yolanda Renee King, the only grandchild of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Washington, DC, August 28, 2020. These photographs I made while I had the fortune of shadowing Yolanda Renee, her father, Martin Luther King III and her mother Arndrea Waters King. That day thousands honored the 57th anniversary of the March on Washington, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech in 1963.
I have been quite protective of this series of images, since I was in complete awe of Yolanda Renee’s tenacity at such a young age. And with the loving support of her parents, I was truly moved by their union to preserve Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s message.
Maybe one day I’ll share the rest of the images. But for now here are a few visual documents of that very emotional day.
