Summer travel pro tip: if you can, check your bag and board later.

Why? That jet bridge turns into a sauna in the summer. You’ll spend less time standing shoulder-to-shoulder sweating with a backpack, roller bag, and winter-level body heat while the plane struggles to cool down at the gate.

Checking your bag means:
✈️ Less stress fighting for overhead bin space
🥵 Less time baking on the jet bridge
💺 Easier boarding experience
🧊 Better chance of staying cool before takeoff

Bonus move: wait until your boarding group is almost finished before getting in line. Your seat is assigned — no need to stand in a human traffic jam for 20 minutes.

Especially helpful on regional jets and airports with poor gate AC.

MISSED YOUR FLIGHT? Don’t panic — and definitely don’t go home yet. ✈️

One of the biggest mistakes travelers make after missing a flight is assuming they’re out of options. In many cases, your airline’s Contract of Carriage is still in effect, and agents can often rebook you on the next available flight to your destination.

A few pro tips if this happens:

• ALWAYS still go to the airport
• Be polite and calm with the gate or ticket counter agents
• Ask about “flat tire” policies (some airlines unofficially help if you were close)
• If there are multiple flights that day, ask to be protected on standby
• Check nearby airports too — especially in major cities
• Elite status and credit card partnerships can sometimes help prioritize rebooking

The faster you get to an actual airline employee, the better your chances of getting back in the air without paying a huge fare difference.

And remember: weather delays, staffing issues, and mechanical problems are handled VERY differently than simply oversleeping. Knowing the difference matters.

Save this for your next travel day — hopefully you never need it. 👀

A few subtle but noticeable upgrades onboard recent ✈️ United Airlines flights lately:

🥞 The catering refresh is real. New breakfast options like the lemon ricotta pancakes and bacon quiche are a big step up from the standard “airplane breakfast” expectations. Surprisingly flavorful, better presentation, and actually something I’d order again.

🥣 Also — the chia seed pudding? Very good. Light, fresh, and one of the better healthier breakfast options I’ve had in the air recently.

🚪 One operational change you may notice onboard: a new temporary privacy/security door system that blocks the galley and forward cabin when the captain or first officer exits the cockpit. It creates a secure barrier between the flight deck and cabin during those moments and is becoming more common across the fleet.

It’s interesting seeing how airlines continue evolving both the passenger experience and onboard safety procedures at the same time. Small details, but frequent flyers definitely notice them.
