Tracy Williams, LTD

Tracy Williams, LTD Private Art Advisor and Agency Since opening in 2004, Tracy Williams, Ltd. has forged a path slightly apart.

The choice of the original location in the West Village and the diverse group of artists has been driven by Williams' unique trajectory in the arts and steadfast interest in contemporary art, culture, and thought. In the gallery's first six years, we endeavored to offer a compelling and intellectually rigorous program featuring emerging and mid-career international artists working in all mediums.

This included many projects outside the gallery walls including performances, film series, large-scale installations, curatorial projects, and lectures. The gallery's new location in the heart of New York's Chelsea district opened in May 2010. The gallery remains focused on exhibiting and building the careers globally for a group of national and international artists, both emerging and mid-career. Williams work experience includes time at the major auction houses, Christie's and Sotheby's, as well as commercial galleries in New York and Paris. She also applies the knowledge and networks accrued over the course of her career to personal art advising. Please contact the gallery if you would like to learn more about our art advisory services.

My cat brought me a bird, as cats do. He dropped it outside my bedroom door one morning and made the necessary noise to get me to open it, and when he knew I’d seen his offering he walked away down the hall, not even looking over his shoulder to see if I was impressed. I picked up the bird and put...

Carolina Nitsch Project Room
534 West 22 Street, New York, NY 10011
Carolina Nitsch Project Room is pleased to present an exhibition of new large-scale works on paper by New York based artist Richard Dupont at the gallery’s 22nd Street location. This will be the artist’s fourth exhibition with the gallery.
While rooted in the present moment of uncertainty and drastic environmental and social change, these immersive works also reference late 19th and early 20th Century visions of a natural world under siege by the onset of technological development. They depict states of being, as forms coalesce and recede within a state of transformation which allows for multiple interpretations.
Beginning in early 2018, Dupont developed a process of large scale paper marbling used in conjunction with brush and ink. The process allows for chance and references the ancient history of Hydromancy: paper marbling as a form of divination. Certain images emerge in these works, such as the image of a commercial fishing trawler based on the woodcut, Fischdampfer, by the German Expressionist Emil Nolde, while others are more abstract and random.
Like much of Dupont’s figurative sculptural work, the new works on paper examine the distortion of the natural world at the limits of perception. While these works are anthropomorphic in nature, the figure is absent. They avoid any fixed position, as forms drift in and out of a fluid field, embracing both creative and destructive aspects.
Richard Dupont was born in 1968 in New York City. He received an AB degree from the Department of Art and Archeology at Princeton University in 1991. His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions at venues around the world, including The Powerhouse Museum (MAAS), Sydney (2017), The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (2016), The Cleveland Museum of Art (2015), The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD)(2014), and The Lever House, New York (2008).
Works by the artist are included in the permanent collections of numerous institutions, including The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Cleveland Museum of Art; The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; The Brooklyn Museum; The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and the New York Public Library Print Collection, among others.

SIMRYN GILL
"My Own Private Angkor" acquired by
THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART, NEW YORK

We are so pleased to announce the recent acquisition by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York of Simryn Gill's photographic installation, "My Own Private Angkor", 2007-2009. First exhibited in its entirety at the 12th Istanbul Biennial in Turkey and most recently in Sweden at Lunds Konsthall in 2017, Gill's monumental work "My Own Private Angkor" (2007-2009) - a series of ninety black and white silver gelatin prints examines an abandoned Tudor-style housing development from the 1980's in a small town in Malaysia. Gill has photographed this site in earlier works, "Standing Still" and "Looking for Marcel", and returns again to this subject in this series with a focus on the buildings' interior spaces shot in black and white film. "My Own Private Angkor" captures the effects of changing fortunes and time's passage on this place, which has been subject to encroachment of flora and fauna, and the ransacking of scrap metal. The photographs record the unsettling beauty of loss and decay; they also record a modern formalism, evident in the geometric shapes of window panes left behind by thieves who removed the framing, in the repetitiveness of the interiors, and in the serial nature of the work itself.
