David Perry Take a look at the map and you’ll see that, aside from The Bronx, all the New York City boroughs are on islands. Manhattan is an island, Queens and Brooklyn are both on Long Island, and from the name alone you can figure out that Staten Island is surrounded by water. David Perry Sunday for me is fairly sedate; Monday is a day away, after all. Gotta get a good night’s rest. But that doesn’t mean I spend the day in. Of all days, it’s when I take in a drag show. It’s more than just the comedy, it’s also a happy dose of nostalgia. Stick with me on this since it takes some explaining. Harriet Tugsmen (top) and Chola Spears at Hardware on a Sunday. New York clubs and bars were at their height, and dancers like me were in a healthy demand; if the place had a bar, it had a boy, either for “general dancing” or the nightly shows, which, more often than not, was led by a drag queen....

Not going to lie: New York is expensive. And of New York, Manhattan kicks it up to the Nth level. I should know, I live in Manhattan. And I can tell you, right here and now, that NYC can bet done on a budget. Starting with food. The term “New York slice” is so local that anybody outside of town will have no idea what it means. Essentially, it is a single slice of cheese pizza that costs all of $1.50. You are free to add certain condiments (hot sauce, hot pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, or oregano), but that’s about as complicated as it gets....

Table top! I took all of these photos on the plateau-summit of Table Mountain in Cape Town. It’s high enough — 1084.6 meters (3,563-feet) — to have a completely different environment compared to its base, which is at sea-level.

OK, I have no idea what the lyrics to the song mean, but here is the hotel I had in Cabo! And yes, it is a super romance version of what Mexico really is, but for the four days that I was there, I totally bought it! Pure escapism, I admit.

There is always room for dessert, especially this one. My friend Cesare just opened his restaurant, FooDance! Being a born in**ed, Italian, everything on the menu is right from his mother‘s kitchen in the Old Country, including dessert. And what’s great about this, this is not an American version of Italian food. This is real Italian Italian food. That cannoli was divine! The restaurant is at 10 and 47 in Hell’s Kitchen, BTW.

Through the tulips at Longwood Gardens! This shot isn’t as easy as it looks; I had to position the phone and me amid the flowers just so, all while avoiding honking off the gardeners that make this place so loverly.

Roses in the rain. I took all of these photos in Hudson River Park, which is only about two blocks from me. Considering how much it has rained this spring, I figured I may as well take advantage of the ambience.

I know it might look kind of weird; this is a rose that was it facing the ground. Essentially, it was upside down, and all of the rain was catching on the underside of the pedals.
