Collezione Em is known for creating intimate, design-forward hotels that emphasize Italian craftsmanship, personalized service, and local culture rather than large-scale luxury.

Overall Rating: ★★★★★ (4.8/5)

Best For:

Luxury couples' getaways
Honeymoons and anniversaries
Travelers who appreciate boutique hotels with character
Guests seeking personalized service instead of a large luxury resort
What Makes It Stand Out

Design & Atmosphere – 10/10
The hotel blends historic Venetian architecture with contemporary Italian design. Interiors feature handcrafted furnishings, Murano glass, custom fabrics, and elegant artwork, creating an atmosphere that's sophisticated without feeling overly formal. Vogue praised the hotel for showcasing exceptional Italian craftsmanship and a refined residential feel.

Location – 10/10
One of its biggest strengths is its location. It's only a short walk from St. Mark's Square, yet tucked away enough to avoid much of the tourist noise. This allows guests to experience Venice while still enjoying a peaceful retreat.

Service – 10/10
Guest service is consistently described as highly personalized. Rather than a traditional hotel experience, the staff focus on tailoring recommendations, arranging artisan visits, restaurant reservations, and custom sightseeing based on individual interests.

Rooms – 9.8/10
Rooms emphasize comfort and Italian luxury with:

Premium linens
Marble bathrooms
Bespoke furniture
High-quality finishes
Quiet, relaxing atmosphere

The property is intentionally intimate, making it feel more like an elegant private residence than a commercial hotel.

Dining

The hotel's restaurant, Il Piccolo, receives praise for elevated Venetian cuisine using seasonal ingredients. The menu focuses on authentic local flavors presented with modern refinement rather than being overly experimental.

Overall Rating: 9.3/10

The Carlyle is not simply a luxury hotel—it's one of New York City's most iconic institutions. Located on the Upper East Side near Central Park, it has hosted presidents, royalty, celebrities, and business leaders for decades while maintaining a reputation for privacy and discretion.

What Makes It Special

Old New York Elegance

White-gloved elevator operators
Art Deco architecture
Traditional luxury service
A sense of stepping into classic Manhattan society rather than a modern luxury chain hotel.

Location
The hotel sits on Madison Avenue and East 76th Street, one block from Central Park and within walking distance of major museums, luxury shopping, and some of Manhattan's best restaurants. The neighborhood is quiet, affluent, and highly walkable.

Rooms & Suites

The rooms are generally larger than many luxury Manhattan hotels, with classic residential-style layouts. Suites overlooking Central Park are among the most desirable accommodations in New York City. Expect:

Marble bathrooms
Spacious closets
Luxury linens
Traditional décor rather than trendy contemporary design
Apartment-like layouts in many suites.
Dining & Nightlife
Bemelmans Bar

Perhaps the most famous hotel bar in New York, known for its original murals by Ludwig Bemelmans, creator of Madeline. Live piano music and classic cocktails make it a destination even for locals.

Café Carlyle

A legendary cabaret venue that has hosted renowned performers for decades and remains one of Manhattan's most intimate entertainment experiences.

Service

Service is where The Carlyle truly shines. Guests consistently praise:

Personalized attention
Professional staff
Concierge service
Discretion and privacy
Traditional luxury hospitality.

The Beverly Hills Hotel

Overall feel: Hollywood glamour, energy, and visibility.

This is the famous “Pink Palace.” It feels like stepping into old Hollywood with palm-lined entrances, pool culture, and the social scene centered around the Polo Lounge. People often choose it because they want the classic Beverly Hills atmosphere and a sense of occasion.

Strengths

Iconic history and celebrity legacy
Strong social atmosphere and people-watching
Legendary bungalows with more privacy
Classic California luxury style rather than ultra-modern design

Things travelers sometimes mention

Some rooms preserve a vintage feel that can read as less contemporary than newer luxury hotels
The energy level is higher and more public-facing than Bel-Air

Luxury scorecard

Privacy: ★★★★☆
Atmosphere: ★★★★★
Design modernity: ★★★★☆
Celebrity/scene factor: ★★★★★

Best for: Fashion, business meetings, social travelers, luxury experiences with an “arrive and be seen” atmosphere.

Hotel Bel-Air

Overall feel: Private estate, serenity, and understated luxury.

Hotel Bel-Air is almost the opposite personality. Guests often describe it as entering another world: swans on the lake, gardens, quiet pathways, and bungalow-style rooms. The focus is less on being seen and more on disappearing.

Strengths

Exceptional privacy
Garden estate atmosphere
Spa and wellness experience
Indoor–outdoor room design with patios and some plunge pools

Things travelers sometimes mention

Some travelers love the classic aesthetic while others find parts of the décor more traditional than modern

🌄 The First Half: Immersion at &Beyond Punakha River Lodge

Your experience begins in Punakha, where &Beyond places you right in the middle of Bhutan’s natural beauty.

Set along a flowing river, the lodge feels like a luxury expedition base. You wake up to mist rising off the water, spend your days hiking to ancient temples, and return to open-air dining and fire-lit evenings.

The tented suites blur the line between indoors and outdoors
The food stands out—rich, varied, and less restrictive than typical Bhutanese wellness cuisine
Days are filled with guided exploration, not downtime

This part of the trip is about engaging with Bhutan—its landscapes, culture, and rhythm of life. It’s active, social, and energizing.

🧘‍♂️ The Second Half: Reset at Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary

After days of movement and discovery, the transition to Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary feels intentional—almost necessary.

Perched quietly above the Paro Valley, this property shifts everything inward.

The pace slows. The noise disappears.

Here, your stay becomes less about seeing Bhutan and more about feeling it.

Each guest receives a personalized wellness program
Daily life includes yoga, meditation, and traditional healing therapies
Meals are tailored for balance and health, rather than indulgence

The design, inspired by a Bhutanese dzong (fortress), reinforces a sense of grounding. Even the smallest details—lighting, layout, silence—are meant to restore you.

Since opening in 1896, this is one of Amsterdam‘s most prestigious five-star locations. At De l’Europe Amsterdam, everything recalls a royal palace: vast halls, bathrooms of marble and mosaic tile, stylish furniture, attentive staff. Owned by the Heineken family, the hotel is ideally situated in the historical heart of the city, nestled in a curve of the Amstel river.

Rooms and suites are enhanced by a view over the river, as is the terrace, where a drink in good weather is truly a pleasure. If you’re an art lover, you will enjoy the works of Dutch masters on display, including some from Alfred Heineken’s personal collection. If you enjoy a daily workout, the heated pool is a great place for a few laps.

Everyone can agree on the benefits of an afternoon at the luxury Spa before dining at one of the four restaurants, which rival one another in finesse and sophistication.
