Southern LitFest 2026 concluded with our amazing keynote speaker, Rick Bragg. He shared many funny and moving stories and kept the crowd entertained. After he spoke, he signed books and met fans. Thank you to Newnan Book Co for being our bookseller and the Newnan Cultural Arts Commission and Newnan Leisure Services for their support!

Please join the Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation, the African American Heritage Museum, and the Carnegie Library for the 2nd Annual Literacy Event! We will have book giveaways, fun activities for kids, and a backpack drive sponsored by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. Join us on Saturday, August 1st from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Carnegie. Saturday at Southern LitFest 2026 kicked off with an amazing program with original works by Newnan High School Theatre Student, exploring the power of the press in Extra! Extra! Read All About It! The students did a fabulous job showing the power of stories and voices and included students presenting short scenes on the newspaper and its influence through time. Thank you so much to Newnan High School Theatre for a fantastic morning. And thank you to Truett's Chick-fil-A - Newnan for providing Chick-fil-A meals to all children in attendance.

Southern LitFest 2026 kicked off with an amazing Opening Night Panel at The Burkley Social. Angela McRae, Jeff Bishop, and Kathryn Smith told wonderful stories rooted in journalism and truth, moderated by Newnan Times-Herald publisher Beth Neely. Ateedndess enjoyed mingling and snacking on hors d'oeuvres before and after the panel. The authors signed books after the panel. It was a fantastic first night of LitFest!

What a weekend. 🎉

Southern LitFest 2026 is a wrap — and we are still talking about it.

Rick Bragg had The Wadsworth in the palm of his hand. Ronda Rich had the room laughing and crying in the same breath. D**k and Eric NeSmith sparked a conversation about Southern storytelling that we're still thinking about. And Friday night at the Burkley Social reminded us why this community is something special.

To everyone who showed up, bought a ticket, shared a post, or just spread the word — thank you. This event exists because of you and because of the incredible support for the Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation.

We'll see you in two years! 📚
