Trip concluded in the bay for my grandmas funeral. Was an amazing time to celebrate her life with family. I took the time to go soak up the sun and watch the sunset at the beach these couple days here. We used to talk about our mutual love of the and soaking up at same time. My uncle pointed out that she had 67 people named as offspring in her obituary. She lived a full life and soaked up many sunsets.

Slán Leat Grandma!! She was the one I felt the most at home with in my family. I could visit her and sit and silence and we didn’t have to say a word. I think I got my love of reading and adventure and travel and the sea from her. I’m so glad the years before Covid I was able to have a job that let me stop by and see her. With so many grandkids I’m sure it can be a lot to make each of them feel like they are heard. I’m glad I got to see the funny side of her as an adult. (I was always scared of getting In trouble with her as a kid. She never raised her voice. She corrected with a look that terrified and commanded respect) I will miss talking to her about my travels. I will miss having someone special I always needed to buy a gift for on my trips around the world. Her home in Cali was always a second home. But I realize now it was only because of her. Rest easy grandma. You have quite a legacy that you have left behind. Even if you never wanted anyone to be bothered by you. If there is a card game in heaven I can bet the house you’re at it. Or at the very least you’re playing solitaire with the deck you snuck in. All the Chicos I’m sure are waiting for you.

80 years ago today. My grandpa and his nephew and whole lot of their friends did a thing. He would never talk about what he did really. But he made sure every one of his grandkids knew about his friends. 30 years ago he went back with my cousin for the 50th. My cousin still talks about that experience as life changing. Let’s never forget what sacrifice and freedom look like. America still owes a debt they can never repay to
