BREAKING NEWS: Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell has confirmed one of his deputies Cpl. Elio Diaz died after conducting a traffic stop. The traffic stop was conducted just after 3pm yesterday at the Chevron on Melbourne and 41.

He said the suspect 24-year-old Andrew Mostyn pulled out a rifle and shot Deputy Diaz. Mostyn then fled the scene. Deputy Diaz was transported to Shorepoint Health where he succumbed to his injuries.

Deputies found Mostyn at the Popeye's on Kings HWY where they said he pulled out a rifle again, that's when deputies shot Mostyn. He succumbed to his injuries as well.

Sheriff Prummell described him as a great man and father, and said he will be missed.
