We're excited to host a Hawk Watch program with rangers from Natural Tunnel State Park on Friday, September 4th!

🪶We will have a brief talk on hawks at 9 a.m. at the Destination Center, then head up to the High K**b Observation Tower to view these awesome birds in flight!

⛰️There will be a limited number of binoculars available, so if you have some, we ask that you bring them along!

Join us for the third event in the Forest Botanicals Region Living Monument's Community Learning Series! Appalachian herbalists Ruby Daniels, Lori Briscoe, and Terran Young will lead participants in an exploration of the important role forest botanicals play in Appalachian herbal traditions. Participants will learn about the historical and present-day uses of Appalachian forest botanicals and the various preparations that can be made. All attendees will have the opportunity to blend their own herbal tea using sustainably harvested plant material.

Join us in downtown Explore Norton VA from 4-9 p.m. today (between 7th and 8th streets) for 30+ outdoor and artisan vendors, food trucks, craft beer, and live music!

Announcing the winners of the High K**b Explorers Logo Design Contest! Thanks to all the people that submitted designs.

Judges selected two designs by Blair Taylor of Gate City, VA and Kayla Layne of Decherd, Tenn.

We had 32 designs submitted from people across eight states (Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Missouri, and Alabama).

Judges spent about two hours deliberating this morning. We’ll be in touch with all participants this week.

All artists’ submissions will be on display for the next month at the Destination Center so stop by and see all of the awesome designs!

We're excited for the launch of the High K**b Explorers Program at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10! As part of Monday's activities, we have an interactive component, "The Collective Story of Who We Are," which will allow participants to share their love for High K**b through interactive activities. See below flyer for more details.

We'll also have two talks by Wally Smith and Josephine Rodriguez, both professors of biology at The University of Virginia's College at Wise, as well as a visit from Popcorn, a corn snake and local wildlife ambassador.

Finally we'll be announcing the winner of the High K**b Explorers Program Logo Design Contest during Monday's festivities!
