Katie Short’s sculptures express objects as alchemical materials, as syntheses between native identity and forced context: heat, cold, containment, and exposure. Precise control balanced with passion for the humanity of fluke shows her practice as a curiosity-driven experiment, uncovering natural metaphors that connect materiality with human experience. The realized sculptures and installations em

phasize material phenomena in the face of a historically critical art dialogue that has been largely centered on illusion. Her work is part of a fundamental conversation particular to contemporary Sculpture and Craft, stressing the act of making as a way of thinking. Her practice is multimodal, cyclical, and in keeping with her belief that (A)rt's creation necessitates both sincerity and skepticism; the best art is conceived and approaches concept organically, and inspiration of curiosity is the most genuine way to prompt public discourse.
