Icon of the Seas, the new mega‑ship from Royal Caribbean, does indeed have a resident golden retriever on board!
Her name is Rover, and she holds the delightful title of Chief Dog Officer (CDO). Royal Caribbean introduced Rover just before the ship’s inaugural Caribbean voyage in late January 2024. Her main “job”? To bring joy and happiness to crew members and guests alike—a furry ambassador of smiles and cuddles.
Rover joined Icon of the Seas as a puppy of around six months old and has remained onboard ever since. She’s cared for full-time by her handler (often referred to as her “Chief of Staff”), Alison Hubble—though some reports now mention a handler named Maya—who ensures Rover is happy, healthy, and ready to meet-and-greet.
Rover’s life aboard the ship is filled with perks worthy of any pampered pup:
• She lives in a specially designed cabin complete with a built‑in crate, toys, and a cozy bed.
• Rover’s favorite spot is Central Park—nicknamed “Central Bark”—where she loves sniffing real trees and greenery under the open sky.
• She also enjoys spending time on the bridge, napping in the captain’s chair with sweeping ocean views.
• When docked at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, Rover gets to run around on the beach—her absolute favorite place for fetch, sand, and swimming.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Rover was brought on board in consultation with animal welfare experts from the American Humane Society. This ensured her environment and routine aboard were safe, well thought‑out, and comfortable.
In summary: Icon of the Seas is home to its very own golden retriever, Rover, who serves as the official Chief Dog Officer. She’s a beloved fixture on the ship—spreading joy from bow to stern.
